One of the mort appreciated gifts we received during the holidays was a string of partridges presented us by our friend, H J Burgess of Beth el. Mr Burgess s lame as a sportsman is county-wide and he is very liberal in dividing his game-bag with his friends. We think there is nothing more palatable than a nice plump partridge and thanks to our friend's generosity we fared sumptuously through the holidays. Our good friend. Willie McCrea, of the Central church vicinity, brought us last Friday, a fine large , 'possum?one that he had caught several weeks ago and had fattened in a pen and it was literally as fat as a pig. It was an ideal specimen? that 'possum?and needless to mention, its savoury meat added in a large measure to the Christmas cheer. Willie says that he has one of the best 'possum dogs in the county. When "Old Fido" sounds the alarm that he has one "treed" be n|jfer lies. Our friend "W S C" explained that his 'possum came in behind schedule time on account of the bad weather for catching the wily marsupia . None the less it came in ample time to be prepared to grace the Christmas dinner and, as Brother Bass would say, it was of course the mece de resistance of the festive board. As a fitting accompaniment, our friend Camlin put in a pork ham and a half dozen pounds of fresh sausage, all of which is gratefully aDDreciated. The ostrich is only secondarily responsible for the big millinery bills. It does not part with its feathers willingly.
