According to the report of Insurance
Commissioner F H McMaster,
Williamsburg county's share of license
fees amounted to $791.54 for
the past year.
County Treasurer Cook informs us
that he is far behind the usual
amount of taxes collected up to this
time. Only about two more weeks
before the penalty will be added.
Attention is called to the very
flourishing condition of the four
banks of Williamsburg county, as
shown by their quarterly statements
published in this week's paper.
Deputy Sheriff Hill of St Matthews
(Calhoun county) came over Tuesday
to get a negro named Mose
Young, who was a fugitive from
justice from Calhoun county. Several
warrants were out against the
negro, who is said to be an educated,
accomplished rogue.

our office later than Tuesday noon.
It doesn't seem to do any good to
give this information from week to
week; all the same it accounts for
many an interesting article not

this medium.
Mr J H Reardon of Mouzom
showed us Saturday a couple of eari
of corn of his raising. These ears,
which were fairly average, he said,
were large, well-formed and solid.
On three acres,with only 200 pounds
of fertilizer to the acre, Mr Reardon
says that he gathered 72 bushel , of
corn.
We especially call attention to
the two full-page ads that appear in
this issue. Both 'he firms represented
are live, progressive and enterprising
business houses and their
stores are fairly crc wded with merchandise
of the best quality. It will
pay you to give theie ads more than
a passing glance.
"Daniel Boone oa the Trail" attracted
a good-sized audience at the
opera house Saturday night. The
plot was fairly good, as weresome of
the scenery and "properties," such
as the big Siberian wolves and the
frontier log cabin and other effects.
There were also cne or two actore
in the oast. Judging from the demonstrative
applause the play pleased.
Five white men were arrested
Friday on the charge of vagrancy
and sentenced by Mayor Kinder to
two days work on the streets in lien
of $1.00 fine. The young husky specimens
had annoyed several person*
by begging for a "hand-out". All
claimed to be from the North,bound
for Charleston to work on the navy
yard.

town Monday. Mr Gary is a cult{
ured, scholarly gentleman, whom it
r is always a pleasure to meet. By
( the way, Mr Gary has had a remark,
able political career, having served
[ two tei ms as Speaker of the House
* of Representatives, he was elected
p to fill the unexpired term as United
t States Senator and now represents
Abbeville county in the State Legislature.
Being just in the prime of
vigorous manhood, we expect there

- trust to be filled by him.
