Thanksgiving * day passed off 1- quietly in town, most of the stores >- being closed and a Sabbath stillness prevailing, save for the echoes of of the shot-guns of local Niinrods, who spent the day exercising their ^ marksmanship shooting partridges, doves, squirrels or any other wild r creature that came within range of their trusty weapons. Thus far, however, we have not heard of any phenomenal success in the way of - filling the game bags. Christmas will soon he at hand, and hard times or good times, there a will be a lot of Christmas goods sold. We ask our readers, both in and out of town to do their Xmas trading with the firms whose ads ^ appear in The Record. Bidding Was Spirited and Several Tracts Brought Good Prices. Salesday, Monday, brought the biggest crowd that has been seen here for a long time,on a similar occasion. There were several pieces of land advertised for sale, most of it desirable real estate, and when put upon the block th? bidding was lively and spirited. The first tract offered offered was a "Sheriff's Sale" in the matter of Bradshaw vs Kasia Gamble et al. This tract of land contains 154 acres, "lying, being and situate" within a few miles of Greelyville. The bids were offered by Greelyville business men exclusively, and, as one of the bidders remarked: "It just shows that we believe in Greelyville dirt." The several bidders ran neck and neck for half an hour, and the contest was quite exciting; so much so that Auctioneer Bryan jocosely remarked that there must be a gold mine on the place. Finally the property, 154 acres, was knocked down to Meisrs S V and E 0 Taylor of Greelyville for the tidy sum of $3,000, which is a trifle over $19 an acre. Next tract, McFadden vs Jane Grant et al, 20 acres, near Central church, was bid in by Mr W V Strong for $390. Fifty acres, near Rhems, in re F Rhem & Sons vs Feaeher Pressley et al. was bought by Messrs Kelley & Hinds, attorneys, for $325. Two tracts were sold for taxes, 4G acres and 40 acres, respectively; both are situate in Mingo township and both were bid in by Kelley & Hinds, attorneys, for the same price, $110 each. The last sale, a partition sale, Ervin vs Bennett,by H O Britton,Clerk of Court, was a tract of 37J acres near Bloomingvale, which was bought by Joe McCullough, colored, for $425. \ New Advertisements ^ Save Now for Life's December?
