High school opening for the eighth
scholastic year was held in the auditorium
September 11. There was a
most gratifying attendance of pa*
trons and friends present. Devotion
al exercises were conducted by Rev
T J Clyde and addresses were made
by Hon B B Chandler and Prof 0 M
Mitchell. Music was furnished by
Miss Huff.
The faculty consists of Prof 0 M
Mitchell, Misses Florence H Stubbs,
Aline Turner, Beulan Wilson, Trannie
Caughman, Lona Reed and Nettie
Huff.
Among the improvements that
have b^en made are a book depository
and supply?n>om, a physical laboratory,
an additional class room
with new furniture, lavatories and
additional spigots for drinking wa
ter.
One of the greatest additions is
the lyceum course,which will consist
of six very fine attractions, namely:
The LeLarge Musical company, H
W Sears, Mr Ralph Bingham, Brush
the Great. Ross Crane and Ottenbein
Male Quartette and Bell Ringers.
The first attraction, the LeBarge
Musical company, was presented
September 29. The attendance was
quite promising.
The Francis Marion Literary socity
has held regular meetings since
the opening week. Fresh efforts
t will be put forth to make this the
most successful year in the history
of the society.

The time of these trains at Kingstree

The ^"Palmetto Limited" will not
stop at Kingstree.

election takes place today for an intendant
and four wardens for the
coming year. The welfare of our

pends on the men who are made officers
and the co-operation of the
citizens of the town. Now, brother
townsmen,before this is put in print
the officers will be elected. Regardless
of who our officers may be. let
us put our shoulders to the wheel
and help push this town to the front
and make it the town of towns. We
have the backing; all we lack is
united effort by the people. Let's
hold up the hands and efforts of our
newlv-elected officials.
We were shocked and saddened
when the death of Hon John S Graham
was made known here last
Wednesday afternoon. While his
friends expected the worst, still it
was a shock to everyone. The sympathy
of this entire community is
extended to the bereaved family in
their dark hour of bereavement. May
the God who shows mercy heal the
bleeding hearts of his loved ones.
The Feagin-Marshall corporation
has overhauled and greatly improved
the Camlin store building they purchased
last January and have moved
their mercantile business thereto.
They have installed beautiful gas
lights, which make a fine show at
night. These enterprising young
men seem to have succeeded in their
business.
Mr Bentley Ferdon passed through
town last Thursday afternoon, returning
to his adopted home in the
"Land of Flowers". Mr Ferdon has
been visiting his parents, Capt and
Mrs John Ferdon of Morrisville.
