The municipal political pot is hot
and still a-heating, as the expression
goes. Every day or so now we hear
of a new candidate for Mayor or
Alderman.
A bright little girl in town was
asked the name of her kitten. "I
call her Muriel," said the little
maid, "because she starts with a
mew and ends with a yell."
Mr J Y McGill of Benson has our
appreciative thanks for a nice lot of
I scuppernongs. They came from
our boyhood home and are the finest
flavored grapes in the world.
The two tracts of land sold under
foreclosure Monday by Clerk of
Court Britton were bought byv Mr E
B Rhodus, the mortgagee, the first
tract for $250 and the second $860.
Mr W M Tisdale of Benson called
called pleasantly at our office Saturday.
His visit called to mind days of
early boy-hood when "Willie" and
ourself were school-mates at our
first school.
Mr J B Bradshaw of Zeb bought
the quarter-acre tract of land advertised
for sale for taxes for $10. The
other two sold were bid in by LeRoy
Lee, attorney, and Mr V G Arnette,
respectively.

Mr and Mrs Henry Burch, who
have been visiting relatives near
Benson, passed through town last
week, returning to their home at
Florence. They were accompanied
by Mrs Burch's sister, Mi9s Alma

The sound of saw and hammer,
which seldom or never ceases here,
has been augmented recently. Mr C
W Wolfe is having his dwelling remodeled
and another story added,
and Mr A C Hinds' contractor will
soon break ground for the former's
handsome residence to be erected in
North Academy street, near Capt
Funk's dwelling.
We learn with sincere regret that
our friend,Mr V E Lifrage of Salters
Depot, was severely injured Monday
by a tree falling across his leg and
crushing it. It seems that in cutting
or sawing down the tree, in some
way the trunk slipped from the
stump and fell across his leg. Further
than the foregoing we have not
been able to ascertain the particulars
of the accident.
