| FARMERS' DAY AT ANDREWS. Over 1,500 People Hear Clemson Professors Speak. Editor County Record: ? Our Farmers' day passed into history Saturday without anything but good will and pleasure and a pleasant outing to a host of 1,500 to W2 ,000 people, consisting mainly of farmers and farmers' wives and children. We had with us people from Kingstree, Cades and Lake City, among whom were noted the L Messrs McGill of Kingstree, Rev Mr Meadors, the able presiding elder of Kingstree circuit, also Mr Smiley and others of the Cades and Lake City sections. Superintendent An* drews ran two excursions over the Marion Branch road and from Cades one over the A C L Corp's logging road. We understand that transportation was free on these trains. A special was run over the line of the G k W railroad. The writer was present anil heard some very instructive talks on farming, such as: Fruit culture, how to get rid of insect pests, and the selection of seeds; also on the analysis of fertilizers. The lectures were given by three professors of Clemson College and one speaker from the Agricultural Department at Washington, D. C. This speaker addressed us on cover crops, deep cultivation, seed selection from our own fields. This talk was a great treat to our people and very i instructive throughout. The talk < f i the young man who addressed us t on peach and fruit culture was an ? * eye-opener to all. No wonder we don't raise peaches successfully here. In fact.the entire affair was enjoyed by our farmers. The Georgetown brass band was on hand and enliven - .? j ed the occasion witn aengnnui music. After the speaking the crowd was invited to the many tables which had been prepared and all partook i to repletion of the good things prepared. These professors claim that we have the finest soil in the South. Go to work, men, and stop trying to leave the farms. We feel that Farmers' day here was more than a success and our town is justly proud of the splendid occasion. Subscriber. Thirty Years Together. ? ' Thirty years of association?think f it. How the merit of a good thing stands out in that time ? or the worthlessness of a bad one.
