WIFE SHOOTS SELF TO
DEATH IN HOUSE ALONE.
MRS. H. \V. FLEY1ISTER FOUND
DEAD BY HUSBAND AT 6:30
THURSDAY EVENING.
Driven temporarily insane by the
intense weight upon her mind of
continued nervous troubles, Mrs)
Harry W Flemister, a young woman
of 21 years, shot herself through
the heart Thursday afternoon. Aug
ust 10, and died almost instantly.,
It occurred at her home. 383 Wil!
liams street, and no one else was in
the house at the time.
The body wa^ first found by her
husband, Mr 11 \V Flemister. about
6:45 o'clock, directly after entering,
the house. As he walked up the
stairs he smelt something burnt, j
Walking into the bed room he saw
his wife lying still and white on the
bed, clad only in her night gown.1
He jumped at the conclusion att
once that she had had a nervous attack.
and without even seeing that
she was dead he rushed out for a
doctor.
As he ran by the second house up
the street he saw Mr and Mrs John
Peel, whom he had accosted only a
few moments earlier as he passed by
on his way home, and called to them
to go to his house quick and help
his wife.
"She looks very sick," he said.
While he went on for the doctor,
Mr and Mrs Peel went to the house
and Mrs Peel first entered the house
and made the discovery that Mrs
Flemister was dead. Two bullet
holes were in her breast. She was
lying on her back and the pistol was
partly covered by her gown. A huge
burnt spot was on her gown, showing
that the pistol had been held
within a few inches of her breast.
Mr Flemister was prostrated.
Their married life had always been
happy, the only cloud being the poor
health of Mrs Flemister. Ever since
her marriage two years ago she had
suffered from nervous disorder, and
had been under treatment.
At the coroner's inquest, held Friday
morning in the Bloomfield-Burkert
chapel, testimony was given by
her husband and the neighbors. It
was shown how she was subject to
severe nervous attacks and how she
j# was driven nearly wild at times by
* the strain. However, she was never
known to have considered suicide.
Thursday afternoon she had been to
the physician for treatment and had
returned home alone in the late afternoon.
The doctor said nothing
to alarm her, and the fact that she;
ordered a prescription sent out,
which arrived shortly after her
death, would tend to show that her i
act was not long premeditated.
All alone in the house she felt the ,
painful nervous attack coming on !
her and driven half out of her wits
i 1 .1..

seized the pistol and decided on the!
moment to end it all.
The verdict of the coroner's jury
was that Mrs Flemister had come to
her death from a gunshot wound
inflicted by her own hand.
The funeral services were held <
at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at
the Bloomfield-Burkert chapel on I
Luckie street. The pall-bearers were |
