j
A Belated Raln-fall-Items ol Local
lnterest--Personal Mention.
Trio, July 3:?News around here!
is very scarce.
All things considered, the crops!
look fairly good and the farmers are I
in letter spirits.
Mrs M E McDonald,who has been [
quite sick for the past two weeks, is'
up again, we are glad to report.
Mrs Marion Graham was a visitor i
to her sister, Mrs Waldron at J
Andrews, one day last week.
u,,vruK' Since I started to write, j
we have had a tine rain and it is1
still falling1. Being the first good
rain we have had for very nearly
three months,of course it was badly
needed. Crops are bound to come
now.
Last Saturday was a great day
for the employees of the Georgetown
& Western railroad?pay day.
" Miss Minnie Bryan visited friends
at Georgetown, Andrews and Rosemary
last week.
Among the Masons from here who
attended the funeral of Mr John!
Pipkin at Bloomingvale last Sunday
were Messrs W T Rowell, W J Flowers
and others.
Dr L W Moore and Mr D Z
Rowell spent Sunday with the lat
ter's parents, Mr and Mrs E K Row-1
ell near Taft.
Rev Mr Langston filled his appoint- 1
ment here last Sunday. He preached
two sermons?morning and afternoon.
Mr Sam Norton, who has just
i been graduated at the school for the '
blind at Cedar Springs, Spartanburg 1
county, has returned home.
Mr and Mrs?;?Lewis of Lake

breaker at Blshopvllle.
Bishopville, July 1:?Policeman .
Rembert was severely cut late yes,
terday afternoon by Frank Skinner,
a son ot W J W Skinner, while he
4 {
A was attempting to arrest him for
disorderly conduct. Rembert, after
being cut, pulled his pistol and emp- ,
tied the entire charge of five bul- ^
[ lets at Skinner; all of them, however,
^ ' went astray except one,which struck
Burch Skinner, a brother of Frank J
Skinner, on the leg below the knee.

Skinner is therefore in a serioud con- '
dition. Both men had their wounds
dressed and are doing as well as
could be expected this morning. J
Mr Rembert was at one time a
resident of Williamsburg and has i
relatives in this county. Later advices
state that his wounds, while <
painful, are not serious and he will i
% probably soon be out again. 1

Taft Topics.
Taft, July 3: ?Farmers here are
very blue; no rains sufficient to wet
the lamjs have fallen since the first
of April, causing bad stands of cotton
and corn. Qld corn will be a
failure. Cotton is looking very well,
considering the long drouth.
Mr R A Brown's new dwelling
will soon be completed. It will be
quite a handsome country home.
Mr Frank L Richardson has been
promoted from clerk to general
manager of the Blakeley-McCullough
corporation's Taft store since the
death of Mr N L Newton, who held
the position for two years.
Mr \V D Bryan left today for Hendersonville.
North Carolina, where
he has built a summer home. He
will be accompanied by Mrs N W
Cooke, Mrs Mariah Salters and Miss
Lucile Bryan. "YV D, Jr." and Mrs
Bryan will join them in Columbia,
where they have been spending some
time with Mrs Bryan's daughter.
Mrs Francis Cantley is spending
this week at Andrews with relatives.
