Jr, born May 11 to Mr and Mrs W T Clift of Ceylon. Ga. This is our second grandson, and, fifcile it makes our hearts glad to welcome these dear grandchildren, we should drop a tear of grief for the responsibility and anxiety attending the welfare and training of those little ones who stand next to our own. Mrs & Ackerman is said to have been % years old and * leaves a host of relaP tives to mourn her death. It seems that our farmers have laid down their plows and taken up the fishing tackle. Look out,brother, for General Green: a long drought usually means a long wet spell. By the way,Mr Editor, I?and the whole community, in fact? am still having trouble getting our mail. Last week I failed to get my County Record. I get it a little over half the time. There is some one to blame for this poor mail service, and if the Government would just inve-tigate this matter, it is simply a piece of gross neglect. Other people 'here got their papers this week. I have to buy the daily News and Courier from a news-boy on the train, paying $12 a year to get a daily paper, As our mail service now stands, I would not get two copies a week. It gets no better fast, but worse continually. SVBSCRIBKR. (We are sorry to hear of the trouble complained of, but all we can do is to print the paper, address ^ it plainly and put it in the postoffice, which we do every week. If one reaches the office, all must go, for all are wrapped in the same package, unless the number sent to one postoffice is too great to be all mailed in one bundle. Certainly there must be some carelessness at the local postoffice. We would suggest that the patrons of the office get up a petition and forward it to the Postoffice Department at Washington. The Government will certainly do no nothing till the patrons of the office complain. Meantime,we beg that any subscriber at Andrews, or any other office, who fails to get The Record will notify us at once. A postal card will do?Editor The Rec ord). Winthrop College Scholarship and Entrance Examination. The examination for the award of vacant scholarships in Winthrop College and for the admission of newstudents will be held in the county court house on Friday, July 7, at 9 a. m. Applicants must be not less than fifteen years of age. When scholarships are vacant after July 7 they will be awarded to those making the highest average at this examination, provided they meet the t conditions governing the award. Applicants for scholarships should write to President Johnson before the examination for scholarship examination blanks. Scholarships are worth $100 and free tuition.
