Mr James Bryan was a visitor to j jKingstree one day last week. ' was attending to business here last 1 Saturday. j( There was a picnic at Hardee's landing (Black river) April 1, about 1 75 people being present. Eighteen shad,besides other kinds of fish,were served for dinner. Messrs A Terry ' and W Moore and Misses Fannie and innie Marshall were mainly instra-, nental in getting up the affair. Ev;ry one present praised the commit-.' ee for the pleasant time enjoyed. Mr W T Rowell made a business 'ip to Georgetown Tuesday. Messrs Jas Bryan and W E Gra. m have had lightning rods put to : respective dwellings, making a : jded improvement in the appear- j IWbe of the buildings as well as being f conducive to the safety of the occupants. | The people here were shocked to ' learn of the sudden death < f Mr J F i Register at Greelyville Friday night. Mr Register was well known in our community, having lived here for several years. The sympathy of the people goes out to the bereaved1 family. i Wyman, the son or Mr T G McDonald, left Sunday for Andrews to attend school there. Mr N W Cooke of Andrews was here for a short while last Saturday.' Messrs J W Register and VV P ore attended the funeral of Mr J Register at Greelyville Sunday. ! There seems to be a great deal of in? g>in? on these days. A y went to Spring Gully last Sat*y and reported a fine catch, 45 ' fckNvHires in all. Next Saturday, the 15th inst, will ! be a happy day for a good many people around here, for that is the day that "the ghost walks" (pay. V lay) for the G & W railroad and A 2 L Corp. Mr Ben Cooper, from near Taft, ittended services at church here Sunday. Mr J W Salters is having lightning 'ods put to his dwelling. Rev W T Bedenbaugh preached a ine sermon here Sunday. He surely ] lit some of us pretty hard. Titn T~) nAf\T/' 1 f I inc. fftumoflu, Polk Miller Coming. Polk Miller and his company are looked for next Thursday night at the opera house. We had the pleasure of hearing Mr Miller at Bennettsrille ten years ago when by himself be fairly captivated his audience. Now he has to assist him his old comrade, Col Booker, and a quartette of uld plantation''darkies." Mr Miller is an enthusiastic Confederate veteran and nothing pleases him better than to talk over "war times" with aid comrades that he meets all over the South. He is, withal, a Virginia gentleman of the old school, genial, talented, witty, and his entertainment pleases every audience. The Record has no financial interest in Mr Miller's entertainment, but we know that the opera house man agement has secured a fine attraction and they are safe in their proposition to refund the price of admission to any one not satisfied with the per rormance. The management makes a very liberal offer to admit free all Confederate veterans who may be able to attend, and every veteran in the county should try to avail himself of this rare opportunity to hear stories of camp life told in Polk Miller's masterly style. Help Yourself by Helping Us. We hope the friends of The Record, when they come to town to do their trading,will patronize the business houses that advertise in this paper.
