Of Interest I
Locally,
^ A regrettable error of the printer
last week caused the People's MerH
candle Co's ad to contain a cut ad- I
; vertising "Queen Quality" shoes for
H ladies. The Kingstree Dry Goods
Company has the exclusive agency
for this well-known brand of shoes,
? while the/People's Mercantile ComI
pauy's/long suits" are "King Quality"
nor men and "Star Brand" I
for ladies. The error has been
"corrected this week and the Star

the People's Mercantile Co's. This
is one of the most popular lines of
ladies' shoes on the market, being |
fully guaranteed as to fit and lasting 1
qualities.
Our new press was shipped from I
the factory in New York March
30 and we hope to have it installed
in time to print our next issue. J
Should the paper be late in issuing, <
it will be due to some trouble get
ting the new machine to work. The *
freight on this press amounts to <
$70.00 and the cost of hauling and
erecting it will be equally as much,
as it will have to be put up by an I
expert machinist from Baltimore. |
We shall be lucky to get off with ?
$150 when the press is in working ,
. order, besides the first cost of $1,000.
If you owe us anything or want to
shove your subscription another
year ahead, we assure you that we (
have never been in greater need of
money.
IN THE TOILS OF THE LAW.
Powers to Be Brought Back from
Florida to Face Ugly Charge.
Sheriff Graham located W M Powers,
charged with bigamy, at Apalachicola,
Florida, last week and advised
the Sheriff of Franklin county
to hold him until requisition papers
could be obtained. The Sheriff expected
to leave yesterday for the
Florida town and would doubtless
soon have had Powers behind the 1
bars pondering over the error of his
ways and the proverbial fate of the <
transgressor but for an unforeseen
delay in getting requisition papers,
which he is awaiting with some de- 1
gree of impatience.
The last report of Powers' doings
prior to the information that led to
his arrest stated that he had got a
check cashed in Florence, drawn on
a local bank (in which he had no '
funds) and was fairly scorching the (
zephyrs in the celerity of his retro- J
grade movement.But Sheriff Graham ^
