In dull times the penny-wise business-man
"economizes" by cutting
down his advertising space, while;
the broad-minded merchant pushes
his advertising campaign with increased
energy. Which class do
you belong to, Mr Merchant?
Mr John Lesesne.now of Florence,!

Mr?Martin, who has for several
months been railway mail clerk between
Kingstree and Florence, was
transferred to the Charleston-Jacksonville
route on Monday. We congratulate
Mr Martin on his promotion
but greatly regret his departure
from Kingstree, where he is
highly esteemed by all.
We respectfully ask all who send
rolls of honor and other communications
comprising lists of names to be
very careful to write all proper
names plainly. The names may
seem easy to read to the writer, but
ofitimes the printer would have to
be a mind-reader to decipher the
chirography of correspondents. Yet
it seems so funny when we print a
name wrong.
While visiting here with his family
last week, Mr M F Haynesworth of
Florence had an unpleasant and
rather expensive experience. Mr
Haynesworth was taking a ride in
his automobile and on the narrow
and dangerous cause-way just across
the river the machine in some way
collided with a horse ridden by a
negro, breaking the horse's leg, it is
said. Mr Haynesworth says that he
took every reasonable precaution
and while he felt in no way to blame
for the accident, yet he paid the
value of the horse rather than have
the owner suffer the loss.
We have printed up a lot of note
books and receipt forms, which we
will sell at ten cents the book of fifty.

We hope the friends of The Record,
when they come to town to do
their trading, will patronize the business
houses that advertise in this

liberal merchants, bankers and other
enterprising business men, the price
of subscription would be at least $3
a year for such a paper as The Recr\

men who advertise are wide-awake
and on the alert and can give you
better bargains than those who do
not advertise. This applies not only
to Kingstree, but many live and upto-date
business men of Lake dity,
Scranton and Greelyville recognize
the pulline power of an ad in The
Record. tf
