Several Matters oi General Importance Threshed Out. | The Trustees' Association of Wili liamsburg county met according to appointment on Friday, the 2nd inst Although the day was extreme: ly cold, the meeting was well attended and the discussions very interesting and helpful. Mr B B Chandler, president of the association, took the chair, and in the absence of the secretary, Mr -I G McCullough was ! asked to act in his place. After a full discussion of the two 'subjects appointed for the hour, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted: By Mr I) E McCutchen: ' Whereas, Williamsburg county hasa large number of consolidated schools with from two to six teachers each, and whereas, the'present law for State aid to weak schools allows $100 or I * a i: u.aUnnf less ior exieiiumg wic icnu, vtiwiuui. regard to the size or running expense of the school, thereby putting a premium on small schools, and, whereas, in many cases the said $100 will not lengthen the terms of these schools for more than eight days to two weeks, Therefore, be it resolved, that we request our delegation to the Legislature to use their influence in having adopted some plan which would largely increase the appropriation to our larger country schools. By Mr J G McCullough: Whereas,we believe that there are many polls and dogs not returned for taxation in Williamsburg county, and whereas, on account of the frequent formation of new school districts many returns are made in the wrong district, Therefore, be it resolved, that we request our delegation to the Legislature to endeavor to enact a law providing for*the returns of proper ty for taxation similar to mac or cne United States census enmeration. . By Mr W .1 Smiley: Resolved, that we request the delegation to the Legislature to look ? into the advisability of making one school districts in those portions of Williamsburg county that are not now operating under such districts. I By Mr W J Smiley: Whereas, the salary of the County ' Superintendent of Education is not J commensurate with the duties of the office, and.whereas, we believe school > supervision of vital importance, : Therefore, be it resolved, that our : delegation be requested to raise his salary so that he may be able to give 1 more of his time to visiting the schools. : By motion of Mr W J Smiley the next meeting will be held in the court house at 12 m. on the first Monday in March.
