Ho had suffered with nervous dysjx'psia for several years, and the condition necessitating the use of the knife was due to reflex action. He is now getting on nicely and is expected to be able to come home in a few days. Col 0 T Hall left here Sunday night for Missouri. The season for marketing tobacco is just ojiening in that State and Col Hall has been urged to fill in the interim between the seasons here in operating a warehouse from November to February in that new tobacco district. It is to look into this matter that he is making the trip. Should he decide to accept the oiler, it will have no effect upon his business hero. Ho will simply Ik.* away and at work during the time that he has heretofore been without occupation. Magistrate Baldwin Friday sent Sam White, a negro, to the upper court for trial on the charge of stealing. Mr Horace W Carter, whoso home is in Darlington, spent a few days here recently visiting. Dr and Mrs A H Williams si>ent Sunday and Monday in Charleston with their son, Mr Ashton Williams. Saturday night on their way home from the circus at Kingstree, Julius Johnson carved up James Singletary. The performance took place on the road below Cameron church. James received numerous cuts on the hand, head and neck, and it seems really st'-ange that he was not killed, consi lering the size of the wounds on h s head and neck. ? There is a certain town not more than thirty miles from I^ake City that has a policeman who is made of j the right stuff. This particular policeman has a son who occasionally gets drunk. A few days ago the son tanked up and went out on the streets and proceeded to have some "f u n." The policeman-father promptly nabbed the son and locked him up in the "refrigerator," just as he treats "drunks" generally. Mr D B Knight went to Charleston Monday morning on business. This meeting of the society as a whole?essays,declamations anil music; rendered by Miss Green -was much enjoyed. It was our first meeting this year. We hope to see our s ?ciety prosper. With the help of the teachers we are going to have a nice programme every Friday. We shall he pleased to have the patrons and all the people of the community visit our school at any time, but especially when our society meets. Prof Major set apart last Wednesday for "work day." The campus was hoed off, the library cleaned out and all the library books catalogued. The whole school was cleaned out. We hope that when Miss Green visits her home in Lake City again her folks will savshehas "fattened." because she oats so many persimmons.
