Having failed of re-election, some of his disgruntled supporters, fed hy Tom Watson'.- fanatical sjK'eehe> and incendiary writings, are urging "Little Joe" to run as an independent candidate in opposition to Hoke Smith, the nominee j) the Democratic party. Governor Brown cautiously declines to assent to this, hut his spokesmen quietly pass the word around >thaL if elected as a Kdter, lie will *.V?t refuse to serve.
