Grand Jury Presentment.
STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA,}
COUNTY OF WILLIAMSBURG. J
To the Honorable (ieorge E Prince,
Presiding Judge. j
The grand jury in and for the
county of Williamsburg beg leave to
make this their final presentment
for their year of service.
During the year in which we have j
served we have examined all the:
county offices and reported their I
c mdition,which was creditable to the j
respective officers and to the county I
at large. In the Judge of Probate sJ
office our attention has been called I
to Will Book "D" which is falling to.

ling and should be replaced at once ;
at the expense of the county.
We find that the hydraulic ram
used to supply water to the jail is j
tot) small for the purposes for which
it is intended. We therefore recommend
to the county Board of Commissioners
to provide a ram of sufficient
capacity to insure a plentiful
supply of water at the jail and court
house and install it as quickly as
possible. We further recommend
that a complete toilet be placed in
the Judge's room, and that the floor
be carpeted; also that a good desk
be furnished for the use of the Judge

while conducting tne Dusiness 01 xne
court.
We find a lot of bundles of old
records, or papers which appear to
b3 records, in one of the jury rooms,

We further recommend that the1
rooms occupied by jrrand and petit:
jurors be thoroughly scoured and i
cleaned and at least one-half dozen
spittoons be placed in each room.and
a sufficient number of chairs be
provided for the use of the jury.
The trash and loose papers lyinj?
around in the Solicitor's room should
be cleaned out and the election boxes
be piled up in nice, regular order.
We also insist that more insistent
efforts be put forth to suppress
the unlawful liquor traffic in Kingstree.

ship and in the county at large. We
' also call the attention of the magistrates
throughout the county to
the promiscuous and reckless shooting
of fire-arms on the public highways.
Even the Lord's day is not
exempt from this pernicious habit.
We urge our officers to use diligence
'in bringing these offenders against
law and order to justice.
We have acted on all bills of indictment
handed us by the Solicitor
at the present term.
We thank your Honor for the full
and lucid instructions given us. All
of which is respectfully submitted.
