! We He I and in orde J KING* S88SB888888888888S8888 WARNING TO FARMERS Not to Pot Too Mock Bogging on Tkclr Cotton Bole. Editor County Record:? >Jow that the time is approaching for the gathering of another cotton crop, there are some rules governing the U9e of excess bagging to which I wish to draw the attention of every farmer in this community, so that they may protect themselves against those rules governing overtare and thereby sell their cotton at a much more satisfactory price. The Liverpool Cotton Exchange has adopted the following: "Should the weight of bagging exceed 3 9-16 per cent, then the buyer shall have the right to claim for such excess at the invoice price. If the actual tare be not ascertained at the time of weighing, the buyer shall afterwards DC f'OUUeil ou irwvcj ivi luswitvivu. allowance, provided the deficiency amounts to i pound per bale on the entire parcel purchased, but not otherwise." Then the New York and other exchanges allow as a maximum twenty-four pounds tare. All bagging appearing in excess of this will be weighed when the bale is exported and claim will be made on shipper for overweight. These are the conditions governing overtare, and it can be readily seen that when bagging appears in excess of 24 pounds that the buyer as a protection for himself, will be compelled to reduce price on such bale or bides to a point where he can be eofo in handling for claim is made on shipper at the invoice price, therefore he is forced to seek protection at the expense of the seller. Now, what I wish in asking The County Record to publish these facts is to forewarn you and thus you are forearmed. See to it that not one inch over six yards is put on your cotton, avoid any laps or ends or any apparent excess whatever, and, as a result, you will have sold your cotton at a more satisfactory price and in a more satisfactory way. This is written for the betterment of your interests, which I am always glad to protect. Geo A McElveen. Kingstree, August 16. ttiiiiiSM CLontirc uioyyuio vHvpuutf.
