-1 Mr D C Powell of Chapman called
: pleasantly to see us hst Tnursday.
i Mr Powell said that it was his first
,! trip to Kingstree in seven years and
| was amazed at the wonderful
I growth of our town.
| I
. i Mr Merrick.representing the
I Commissioner of Internal Revenue at
Columbia, was here Tuesday getting
after a number of the local mer- j
chants for revenue license. We un-1
derstand that quite a batch of the
i "Malt Toast" and "near-beer" vend-1
j ors were required to "cough up." j
Dr and Mrs D C Scott have return- j
ed from their delightful trip through
the New England States and into i
Canada. They visited Niagara Falls |
and many places of scenic beauty
and historic interest. The trip is
one to be recalled with pleasure
through a life-time.
Dr W V Brockington left yesterday
afternoon for Spartanburg,
where he will take passage on the
C C & 0 excursion which leaves Friday
morning for Cincinnati, Detroit,
the Great Lakes, Buffalo, Niagara
Falls and on into Canada for some
. three hundred miles. The trip will
consume about 12 days.
' Mr Willie Phillips of Zeb, who
! was struck by lightning a few weeks
ago and barely escaped with his life,
was in town yesterday and says he
feels none the worse for his adventure.
In fact, he says that the part
of his anatomy forming a link in the |
; circuit of the electric current feels
better than the portion unaffected
by the shock. He does not not recommend
the treatment, however, to <
5 nervous invalids or valetudinarians ?
? generally. j
Mr Walter Phillips, who recently
| went out to Oklahoma to see the 1
country, returned home yesterday, j
Mr Phillips says that Oklahoma is t
s a great State with wonderful possi?
bilities, but this year the crops are
almost a total failure on account of i
the drought that continued for many \
1 weeks. The people there are thrifty i
and progressive and there is a fine ]
opportunity for a young man to
"grow up with the country." Our
young friend returns, however, more <
than ever imbued with the idea that 1
there's no place like old Williams- 1
. burg county, South Carolina. <
