was in town a few hours re- ^
cently.
The new, double-tracked bridge
across the lake in the northern edge
of town has been completed. The
general impression seems to be that
the job is a good one.
Mr Samuel Nettles and family
have removed from Lanes to Lake
City and for the future will make I
their home with us. Mr Nettles,!
who has conducted a popular and I
successful boarding house at Lanes
for several years, will be the manager
of the new hotel being built by
Mr G L Sauls, on Acline avenue, i
With Mrs Nettles and her capable \
daughters in charge of the dining-j
room and housekeeping and Mr Net-!
ties the genial supervisor, the trav- j
eling public will feel sure of being i
=" thoroughly satisfied with the entertainment
which they receive at this
inn. The work is being rushed un-!
der pressure and it is hoped that
the fifteenth of August will witness
the formal opening. A portion of
.the building, some fifteen rooms,
has been completed, leaving seventeen
chambers, two dining rooms, j
office, barber shop, etc, to be fin-'
ished.

Mrs Delia D Carter is in Rich
moni visiting her daughter, Mrs J j
Frasier Jones.
Several of the members of the
State campaign party spent last |
Thursday in town. Among them
were Lieut Gov McLeod, Mr C C j
Featherstone, Hon EW Duvall.Capt'
J G Richards and Mr J M Richardson.
Giadvs, the four-year-old daughter
of Mr and Mrs S T Godwin, died |
Saturday night. She was a bright,
winsome child and her going away
was a sad blow to the parents.
Mrs Anna Seals, widow of the
late Rev D W Seals, died Thursday
right of last week after a short ill-!
ness and rather unexpectedly. The
remains were laid to rest Friday afternoon
in the Askins cemetery, the
rites being conducted by Rev W L
Waite. Since her husband's death, I
some fifteen vears aaro. Mrs Seals
lived alone, and she had been ill
some time before her condition became
known. Then neighbors and j
physicians ministered to her until ,
the end came. She was a Miss
Lachicotte of Georgetown and the ,
fourth wife of Rev Mr Seals. There ,
were no children or near relatives.

Mr Nolan Motley of Rhodesia,

ng. He says he oelieves in giving
?ach township the work that it is
entitled to from the commutation
and one-mill road tax and he is opposed
to bonding the county to work
the roads, as he believes the roads
;ould be worked under the present
system if properly managed. That is
my view, but is Mr Graham practicing
what he is preaching? We have
roads in the lower part of the county
in Anderson township that never
get anythiug done to them but a
little mud thrown in the holes sometimes
once a year and sometimes
once in two years and the tops of
the bushes cut off. If this township
gets its portion of the work, its por
tion is very little. The roads were
contracted out last vear; the contractors
collected ail they could out
of the delinquent road hands at
52.50 and $3.00 each. Those not
able to pay the money were taken
on the road and worked what was
done to the road. The contractors
did not hire any work done. What
right has a contractor to collect
road tax and how could he have the
right to collect more than $2.00?
Why not hire the same man at $2.00
a day and save from $12 to $15 per
day and let him summon the delinquent
hands and see that the work
was done? We would have better
roads by so doing, for as it is we
haven't any, or as bad as none.
We haven't had any work from
the chaingang or road machine since
they have been in existence, but still
live in hopes, while it is a common
thing to have them in other sections.
Now, Mr Graham, practice what
you preach or quit preaching.
Better koads for same money.
Trio, August 1.
A Fair Proposition.
Every man, woman, boy and j?irl
desires a wheel. It is natural that
everyone should want a bicvcle, as it
is the one source of real pleasure
and healthfulness which all can enjoy
equally and at very little cost.
The cost to you will be nothing?
just send to the Taylor-Trotwood
Pub Co,Nashville, Tenn.a postal and
let them tell you how to make $30.00
and secure a bicycle as a premium.
You are not obliged to accept this
proposition, but we want an opportunity
to tell you what we have to
