It has been suggested?and very appropriately, too?that each candidate for Road Engineer should give his views through your paper as to the best way of building and maintaining roads. In the first place, I would suggest proper drainage. Next, I would grade steep hills, putting the clay in sandy places and sand in the clayey places, leaving the road-bed at least 18 inches higher in the center. Another point I would suggest and that is to dispose of so many small bridges and use tiling instead. a, This can be done at a small additional cost and would be a perma?i nent improvement. There are several other little 1 points I would like to touch on but don't want to make this too long. Yours truly, WTRowell. m Trio, July 27. A Pleasant Entertainment.
