OIL MILL PLANT SOLD
To S)nthern Cotton Oil Co.?Two
Ginneries to Be Operated.
Tfce Southern Cotton Oil Co, has
purchased the oil mill property here
from the South Atlantic Co, and we
have the assurance of Mr L P Kinder,
the local representative of the
new owners, that they will have two
first class ginneries in operation
here at the beginning of the cotton
season next fall. This announcement
rel ieves what had begun to
assume a most unpropitious aspect
for the immediate business future of
our town, as not to have facilities
here for ginning cotton next season
would be a blow to business activity
the seriousness of which it is hard
to estimate. With the cotton season
close at hand and no definite
assurance of the proper kind of ginneries
being operated, the outlook
had. become decidedly gloomy.
This condition seems happily relieved,
however, and it is to be hoped
that there 'will be no further cause
for anxiety on that sc re.
Just what other enterprises the
Southern Oil Company will establish
here we are not in a position to say.
It is safe to predicate, however, that
this big corporation would not tie
up the amount of capital invested
in this property merely to operate
one or two cotton ginneries.
To the best of our information
the plans of the new owners have
not yet been perfected, but we feel
sure that the change of ownership
will sooner or later result in one or

Kingstree that will give employment
to wage-earners and add to the
commercial importance and prosperity
of Greater Kingstree.
Lo, the Poor Candidate.
Editor County Record:?
The poor candidate has a rough
road to travel and scant sympathy.
No wonder good men are reluctant
to enter the scramble. The poor
devil cf a candidate, immediately he
announces his willingness to serve
his constituents, is made the scape
goat not only for his own short-comings
but for those of "the whole
dam family" and even for his wife's
folks' faults. Let a man run for
office and if his grand-daddy ever
got the better of some individual in
a horse-swap that same man, or his
son, or eke his grandson, goes forth
to the polls rejoicing at the opportunity
to strike under cover the man
he is too cowardly to fight openly.
Such a condition, which we all
know exists in a large measure, is
not conducive toward getting the
best men to offer for office.
