BASEBALL IN JAPAN. T.ie American Game Described In Native Newspaper. Charlie Rentz, Jr, of Bamberg, tfho has scores of friends in this city, las been playing ball away out in Japan. He was once pitcher for Orngeburg and was a good man in the t>ox. He is now on a U S battleship vhich is stationed in the waters of Japan. In a letter to the Bamberg Herald, Charlie tells of a game played with a Japanese college team, in which he was the pitcher for the Americans, lie encloses a clipping from a Japan?;e newspaper, which is interesting ?J: 1 : I U + Uo Ton reauingr.snuwiiig nuw uiuuj mc mese reporter knows about baseball. The newspaper clipping, translate^ from the Japanese, is as follows: At 3:20 p m in the 30th of Apri i baseball game was held at the Tf juka grounds between the America ship, "New Orleans," and the Wasela University champions. The Americans' umpire was Mr B 3 Kennedy and the Waseda's was Mr Kono. First, second and third innings, leither side made any runs. Fourth, Waseda's Mr Oi and Mr atsuda got home all right, but Mr )gawa and Mr Fukahori were put >ut between the bases. Fifth, this inning was the same as irst, second and third. Sixth, the first three Americans jot their bases by their excellent laying; the Waseda's were confused ind owing to the confusion Mr Rentz jot home by an error of Waseda's )itcher, and Mr Weber also got home ifter him. Seventh, on the American side,Mr 3/bro and Mr Ashcroft both got lome, and Waseda got no runs. Eighth, Wasoda made no runs, but ust here trouble arose between the ,wo teams, because Mr Iseda, who vis running at this time, when he vas running for third base, was callsi out, which he had made by a good lit from his bat. His ball got among ;he lookers-on and Waseda said it vas all right, because by the ground ule, when a ball. was hit into the :rowd of lookers-on, the batter was sntitled to third base, but the Amercans insisted that he was out, and 15 Waseda conceded it. Ninth, Waseda's Mr Oi got home nd Mr Matsuda also tried to gfet 15me, but he was put out by the American pitcher. During this inning there was ;roubie again, this time about Mr Matsuda being put out, but as the impires and the captains did not nake any concession, but each insistng on their own opinion, the game vas reverted back to the eighth inling with the score 4 to 2 in favor of .he Americans, as they had tl e outs. ?Orangeburg Sun.
