Mr H P Tallevast, who has been

Mrs C M Chandler will leave this
evening for Clinton to attend the
commencejnent exercises of Thornwell
orphanage, at which her grandson,
Charles McCr^a, is a student.

Hinds responded to the toast: "'Past,
Present and Future of Class of 1905,
South Carolina University."
Mr J W Josey, Melchers & Co's
(Charleston) popular bagman, was
here Tuesday and Wednesday, making
the rounds of the merchants in
town. Mr Josey is an enthusiastic
meml>er of the U C T, and an all
around good, clever fellow.
Misses Bessie, Mabel, Louise and
Flossie Harper are home from their
several schools to spend the summer
vacation. Miss Bessie has been
teaching at Lancaster, Miss Mabel
at Summerton, Miss liouise at
Greelyville and Miss Flossie at Scranton.
Mr W R Small and two sons, Robbie
and Cooper, of Swaynesboro, Ga,
are here visiting the former's sister,
Mrs J J Graham. Mr Small comes
back to Kingstree after an absence
of seventeen years and when he saw
the wondrous change that time has
w rought he could hardly credit the
evidence of his eyes.
Mrs H B Snider and daughter,
Misg Irene, on their way from Cuba,
where they have lived for number
of years, to Washington State, tfieir
new home, stopped over here last
week to visit the family of Dr
Snider. Mr Snider went on ahead
to the Pacific Coast to prepare the
new home for the coming of his wife
and daughter.
Hon Geo W Brown, former State
Senator ' from Darlington, was in
town vesterdav looking over the
field in the interest of his candidacy
for Congress, as set forth in his announcement
in this issue. Although
this is his first visit to Kingstree,
Mp. Brown met a number of people
^here and made quite a favorable
impression generally, by his affable
manner and pleasant personality.
