met in the court house Monday and
a good many certificates of registration

living about two miles north of
town, suffered the misfortune of i

teachers' institute in this county
about the middle of July. The date,

Dr Hicks' meteorological forecasts

The annual meeting of Kingstree
Board of Trade will be held next
Tuesday night at the court house.
Every member, as well as every citizen
interested in the welfare and
prosperity of Kingstree,is urged to
be present. Business of importance
will be transacted, which includes
the annual election of officers.
The postmaster's salary at Kingstree
and Lake City in this county
has each been advanced $100 annually?Kingstree
from $1,400 to
$1,500 a year and Lake City from
$1,300 to $1,400 a year. This Is the
best possible evidence of the material
growth of the two largest towns of
the county.
Prof J W Swittenberg, for the
past four years the popular and successful
superintendent of the Pickens
(SC) Graded school, has resigned
to accept the superintendency of
the school at Kingstree, S C. His
successor, Mr J W Ballentifte, was
selected on the 23d inst.?Southern

Few men have accomplished more
for the schools of their neighborhood
than has Mr B B Chandler," of the
Union High school, Rome, S C. Mr
Chandler has been chairman of the
board for a number of years and it
was largely through his influence and
the efforts of Mr 0 M Mitchell, the
principal, that the neighborhood has
one of the best rural schools of the

A car-load of Charleston members
United Commercial Travelers passed
through town Thursday afternoon on
the Palmetto Limited going to the
meeting of the grand lodge in Wilmington,
which was held Friday in
that city. The Charleston drummers
were a delegation of ^boosters for
Charleston. A large placard adorned
the outside of their car and they had
Metz's band along to plajsat all the
stations.
Clemson Agricultural College
Examinations.

The examinations for the award of
scholarships in Clemson Agricultural^
College will be held in the county
court house on Friday, July 8, at
S) a m.. Applicants must fill out proper
forms, to be secured from the
county superintendent of education,
before they will be allowed to stand
the examination. For detailed in
formation apply to the Superintendent
of Education or to the President
Clemson College.
Applicants for admission to the
rallege, but not (seeking for the
scholarships, will also stand entrance
examinations at the court house
Friday, July 8.
The scholarships are worth $100
and free tuition.
