We respectfully solicit your account. Bank of Williamsburg, ! Kingstree, S. C. fuMYiTfflslt I * Next Tuesday, May 10. All roads lead to Kingstree Mem? orial day. I Memorial Day; Unveiling Day; Veterans' Day. There will be service, sermon and Holy Communion at the Episcopal t church next Sunday at 11 a m. Make the hearts of the old veterans glad next Tuesday by doing honor to them and their departed comrades. The ladies of the Methodist church church will serve ice cream on the court house lawn next Tuesday, f" May 10. I j Ground was broken yesterday for l the erection of the monument and ! the contractoi-s say that they will I surely have it ready for the unveil| ing by next Tuesday. p Surrender without a struggle when a pretty girl tags you Me| morial Day. Her object is to raise w monef*for a worthy cause and she deselHfes to be encouraged. The monument to be unveiled is not a local affair. Every veteran i ?j*y\w flsyl everybody who sympathizes with the heroes of the Lost Cause should | feel a thrill of pride on this occasion. [ We are requested to announce that the ladies of the Presbyterian I church will serve cream on the court house square from 4:30 to , 6 o'clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. The First Artillery band of Charleston will discourse stirring music on Memorial Day, but the strains of this famous organization are as nothing compared to the music of Col Armstrong's eloquence. Practically all the business houses in town have agreed to close on Memorial Day. That's the right spirit. The business men of Kingstree can usually be counted on to do the right thing at the right time. The business men of Greelyville responded nobly to our proposition to help out the monument fund. Had the rest of the towns in the county done proportionately as well we would have a nice sum to give to the cause. Mr L Stackley closed a contract yesterday with Mr C E Harris, the well known Greelyville contractor, for the erection of a modern mercantile brick building containing two plate-glass-front stores. Work on the building will be commenced immediately. i t x Jr. xg 10c 36=in Percales, i W 12;c 40=in White L I } 8| 20c 40-in Lin. Bati I M 65c 50-in Lin. Remember, on every copy of The Record sold this week above our regular circulation, all the proiit n r\ A \\n JiUtTS tu WIC lUUIXUIildlt lUlltl. Ill will have about 700 or 800 extra copies for sale. Copies sold at this oflice or orde-rs filled will be duly credited and account rendered. Col James Armstrong, the liveliest and wittiest of the State's silvertongued orators, will be with us at the unveiling. It is a treat to hear him at any time; to the flights of poesy and patriotism this occasion will inspire him fancy paints a flattering picture. Come and hear this gifted speaker. In the way of cuts, photographs, the extra expense necessary to get out this edition amounts to more than thirty dollars; yet every dollar of profit will be given to the monument fund. This is our contribution. Every extra copy sold means two cents for the monument. Haven't you some absent friend to whom yod want to send a copy? To help out the monument fund the girls will pin tags on liberal looking gentlemen, charging a modest sum for the good judgment exercised in selecting the subject. It's a compliment to be tagged by a * * '? 1 - i.L _ pretty girl ana tnose wno wear me little badges of honor do so with the knowledge that their contribution is helping to make possible the beautiful memorial to the Confederate soldiers. We return appreciative thanks to Dr W E Whitlock of Scranton and Drs L W Moore and L H Thomas of Lake City, members of the graduating class of the South Carolina Medical college, for invitations to the commencement exercises held on Wednesday evening, May 4, in the Academy of Music, Charleston. The annual address was delivered by Pr^f Yates Snowden, a member of the faculty of South Carolina University. We are working this week under a great strain with many different things to look after besides the getting out of the Memorial Edition. We ask, therefore, to be pardoned for failing to do something expected of us that may have been overlooked. We are trying to give due attention to everything, but one mind cannot grasp many trilling details wittiout danger of overlooking some of them. For sins of ommission, as well as commission, we ask, in advance, kind indulgence. R H Flowers Hurt. To the Editor of The News and fcourier:?I saw an article in your valuable paper of the account of my accident at Santee river. I had a push car, with five and a half tons of iron, to run across my ankle, breaking my leg and mangling my foot to a great extent, but it is improving a little. I was employed by the American Bridge Company, of New York, and my home is at Kingstree, S. C. I have friends at home that read your valuable paper. If it will not be too much trouble, I wish you would publish this statement under my own name, as you had it Finley before, and my name is Flowers. R H Flowers.
