The long drought here was broken yesterday morning by a ight shower, which though very refreshing, was scarcely enough to ay the dust. The weather bureau nan in Charleston reports that in :hatclty, up to Tuesday, twentjfour days had elapsed since it had rained, which was the third longest irought of which any record jxists. A local weather sharp informed us several days-ago that not a drop >f rain fell here during the month }f March. We cannot verify this statement, but if true, it means that the slight sprinkle of yesteriay was the first rainfall here for it least 37 days. Mr E L Bryan of Morrisville, who attended the Farmers' Union meeting here Tuesday, called pleassantly to see us. Mr F C Thomas of Manning, a well known man of affairs, was here yesterday looking after his business interests in town. Messrs G L Sauls, D M Epps Phillips, J P Matthews and S L Courtney of Lake City mortored over from Lake City Friday of last week. Messrs Simon Poston and S B Poston, well known citizens of the Johnsonville section, motored to to'Am Monday and spent a few hours here on business. This is said to be the oldest Episcopal church in South Carolina, i having been built in 170b. Mr Benton Montgomery, a student at the State Medical college, Charleston, whose illness was menj tioned in last week's issue, was ! able to come home the latter part of the week and will remain here until able to resume his studies. Mr J J Eaddy of Leo called to see us Tuesday. Mr Eaddy has just completed the contract for .building the djaw bridge over Mingo Creek. Mr Eaddy is also a stirring 'farmer and says he has corn up. Mr W E Nettles, of the Lake City section, an enthusiastic Farmers' Union member, attended the meeting here Tuesday. Mr Nettles tells us that he has about twelvd acres of wheat planted this year, on which with fairly good luck he expects to make 500 bushels. That is the way to make farming pay?produce everything possible at home. THE BABY SHOW Will Be Held on Conrt House Square April 12. Weather permiting, The Baby Show will be held on the court house square, Tuesday afternoon, April 12, beginningpt 5 o'clock.
