II FEARLESS, HONES GIVES PIS CPU An tp to-Date Clergyman Describes an Lp-to-Ddte household Remedy that Mas Had the Test of ^ Time and Is Known the ^ World Over. PEELER, Hendersonville, S. C., writes: "I desire to make known for the benefitof suffering humanity my experience with Peruna. "I was afflicted with catarrh of the tomach, and though I tried many remedies and applied to several doctors, it was all in vain. Had it not been for Pemna I believe I would have been in my grave to-day. | "I have every reason to believe that i Peruna is the greatest remedy for catarrh known to the world. Therefore I have been, and shall continue to recommend it to those who are unwell." J v? ABUSING PARDONING POWER. Governor Ansel Criticised for Excessive Clemency. If there has been in recent years "? " ?o ary-Ftar heart than a Lrovernui wiui a . D C Heyward possessed, that Governor was M B McSweeney. When a petition for pardon was refused by both McSweeney and Heyward, it is safe to say that few valid reasons for clemency could be advanced. Gov Ansel has been by kindly newspaj>ers given the reputation of refusing pardons wholesale. This reputation is more or less deserved. Yet one of his first pardons was granted to the young Dr Lee, who killed his own father in a drunken debauch. It was represented that Dr Lee had, during his imprisonment, been cured of the liquor habit and we believe it was on this account chiefly the pardon was granted. Within a few* months after his release from prison, Lee died from the effects of dissipation. Now Gov Ansel grants a pardon to Mrs Fannie Carson, who was a party toJthe assassination of her own husband by her lover. While the husband slept, taking her child out of the bed so, that it would not be awakened by the blow of the ax, this woman assisted in the brutal murder of the man whom she had sworn to love and honor. When the pardon record of Gov -'""Ansel is critically examined, his action in the case of Dr Lee ana Mrs Carson will offset all of the refusals of minor cases with which he is credited, and in which strong personal and political influence, such as was exercised in these cases, was not brought to bear,?Columbia Record. C., writes: "My wife has been in a very bad sf ate of health for several years, and nothing seemed to do her any good until sh? began to use Pernna one month ago. Since then the color has returned to her face, anil she is gaining in flesh every day, and I believe she is a Well woman to-day. "My little boy, ten years old, was pale and had but little life. He begau tou-e Peruna the day his mother began. Today his face is rosy, and be is out in the yard running and Jumping with th? rest of the children." Throat Trouble. Rev. H. W. Tate, 9-jO Lineoln Ave., Walnut Hills, Cincinnati, Ohio, write? that for several years he has been troubled with a peculiar spasmodic affection of the throat, which interfered with his ' vocation as a preacher. He took Pera* | na and his trouble disappeared. A Box Party. Moody, March 21:?On Friday evening-, the 19th inst., a most enjoyable box party was given for the benefit of the Spring Gully school. The scene of the entertainment was the hospitable home of Mr R C Marshall, which was handsomely decorated with native evercreens and exotics.blended together with excellent taste and harmony. After ice-cream and cakes had* been served several cakes were raffled, bringing satisfactory prices. The fish pond afforded amusement for the younger children. During the evening sweet music rendered by skillful musicians was much enjoyed. The gross proceeds of the entertoinment amounted to the tidy sum of $60. There wete people present from various parts of the county and the decorum observed was unexceptionable. Edgar. DOING THEIR DOTY. Scores of Kingstree Readers Are Learning the Doty of ttie Kidneys. Cook having gotten his on the lecture platform ! and with publishers, in a whirlwind wind-yn.^hat m^Jiaye made I the most/ S"*s<reet ! operat^ inaKt .aa d|f?>t!ers memory, I Vary now vances coyly to the center of I stage and proceeds to gather 1 the fragments. Not that he will disdain ...e emoluments arising from Chautauqua assemblies and lyceum bureaus later on, but Cook gave that field such a severe wrench that Peary will have to wait until the splints are off. In the meantime the field of the volatile and imaginative advertising man is alive \vith eager invitation. One kodak company advertises extensively that the kodak with which Peary snap-shotted the North Pole surmounted by the waving stars-and-stripes, was their make of kodak. Peary complaisantly writes two recommendations! like the patent medicine-men use) which are duly printed over his autograph signature. Not to be outdone, an enterprising Eastern magazine advertises in the other envious Eastern magazines that it has the only authentic "Peary's Own Story," and to prove it prints a picture five inches square of the fl?" "Poavu Mailed to the Pole." uajs . There is a patch-work quilt effect, the same purporting to represent chunks of the flag nailed to icebergs and polar bears and Eskimos along the . route?beg pardon, "dash" is the technical word?this picture being taken, of course, by the kodak advertised and 0 K'd ?# by Peary. Incidentally it is duly copyrighted by Peary. Heaven forbid one should photograph the flag at the North Pole and neglect to secure the commercial emoluments. Now, if we could get a snap-shot (made by one of the Eskimos) with the same advertised kodak, of Peary, hammer in hand, nailing the flag to a gold-mounted, diamond-studded pole it would be most interesting, instructive and convincing. And if, then, we could get a snap-shot (taken by said* Eskimo with said advertised kodak) of Peary snap-shotting the Pole, it seems that conviction and contentment would have reached its limit so far as this wicked world is concerned. In the meantime the cause of true science?for the sake of investigation and learning-?moves on in its traditional careful and halting way. ? Fear Not.?10-Wort/ Book. Pee Dee Historical Association.
