Benson, March 8:?Since the
cessation of the rains farmers are
quite'busy making preparations
for the planting of corn. The
cultivation of this cereal is arousing
great interest throughout the
county. Dr Williams' commendable
effort to encourage our
farmers to produce the greatest
' quantity on a small acreage is
worthy the attention of our
planters.
More tobacco will be planted
(or transplanted) in this section
than fast year, especially so
among the colored folks.

We are late in issuing this week's
paper on account of a rush of advertisements
and correspondence coming
in at the el eventh hour. When
we giye allVertisers until Tuesday
noon to hand us copy, that is the extreme
limit and if any number of
them take advantage of it and wait
tillTueeday noon,it inevitably throws
us late. We had a dozen new ads to
get up this week and, coming in
late, as they did, our force simply
couldn't get the paper out at the
usual time. We hope our advertisers
in future will give us their copy by

Almost every day we hear of a b
new business being started in 1
town or a new enterprise spring- 1
ing up, so that it is difficult to (
keep up with the march of pro-,1
gress. Last week, within a few |1
days of each other, a new mer-! *
cantile business was opened up j1
and a bottling works plant in- j1
stalled before the people of the'J
town?or most of them, at leastknew
what was happening.
The mercantile business is in
the McCabe building, the style of
the firm being Edgeworth Bros. t
&Co., with Mr C A Edgeworth
as the manager. The same firm
operates a similar business in
Camden, from which town Mr
Edgeworth comes. We are glad
to welcome him and his family (
to town.
