needless to say that they will b<

elsewhere. Messrs H G and W I

than a quarter of a century ago
when there was nothing at this place
except a cross leads, a small depo
and some three or four residences
and opened up his stock of goods
in a small house near where Mr J L
(J Moore now h.13 his double brick
store house. By his energy, thnfl
and attention Mr Askins built up e
large trade, the largest in this section,
during the eighties. In com.
mon with others he had his ups anc
downs, but while many had theii
downs a,ud "outs" he had no "Out.'
He might have gone and did g<
down at times but never "out.'
Reverses could not daunt him, and
he always came through hard timte,
a little battered but still on deck
and doing business at the old stand.
Now that his boys can run the
business he rightly thiuks he oughl
to be permitted to take life easy and
let them bear the brant of work and
worry. Maj Askins is not an old
man in years and feeling, but he
has spent a full man's life in
earnest work and has earned a rest,
