both houses that adjournment

Sunday morning about s
Hr o'clock, after an all night
session, and the tired and
k sleepy Legislators went away,
some to their trains, most to
bed, and there is no questioningthat
some at least, were tired,
I' dead tired and sleepy, too.

t sessions were held every day
jj, ' by both houses and three by
the Senate nearly every day.
f This meant work from ten
in the morning till eleven and
1 twelve and even later at night,
with intermissions for dinner
^ and supper. Add to this the
L fact that the bulk of all tke
work was done by a handful
i in each house, and you may well
believe that this handful were
completely fagged out.
There is one thing for which
| we all should be thankful, and
p that is, the State is now safe
at least until the next Aswj
sembly meets. Nothing very
; harmful was done, and the op
portunity to do further harm is

in many years, and that

legislation is the best legislation.
The acts of great general
importance could be counted
upon one's lingers and even the
most prominent of these few,
cannot be classed as towering
legislation. So conservative were
the law-makers that their pro1
ceedings, which heretofore graced
the front pages of the leading
State papers, bare received
inconspicuous places elsewhere,
and the acts and doings have
been told in much reduced
space.
The creation ot the commission
to enlarge the Hospital for
j the Insane was one of the most
'important laws enacted. This
j commission, made up of the
; superintendent of the asylum,
I the chairman of the State Hoard
! of Health and three others to be
j appointed by the Governor, is
empowered to buy land for enj
larking- the hospital and erect
j buildings necessary to relieve
| the overcrowded condition now
existing, and for said purposes
may borrow and expend one
hundred thousand dollars.
; The resolution to amend the
I constitution of the United States
1 passed with but three dissenting
votes in the House and
and fifteen in the Senate.
'Should three-fourths of the
j States follow suit, Congress will

A matter of special interest
to Williamsburg' county is the
act which will become law in
a day or so, providing for a
special constable for the county
whose special duty it will be
to enforce the laws prohibiting
the sale of liquors. This constable
is to be appointed by
the Governor upon the recommendation
of the delegation.
The salary is $960.00, payable
monthly, and $3(>0.(K> annually

through the office fail to
equal *the salary and expenses.
Attention has already been
called to the act relating to the
winding up of the dispensary
affairs in certain counties, including
Williamsburg, and the
