4 Bw WORKING FOR A NEW CHURCH. ff j letosdists Have Gone to Work to BH>\ Raise Funds for Building. [ \ * -v W A Fairy has ;jrone r * *3fictlvely to "work soliciting ^ub[ scriptions for the proposed new 1 ' Methodist church. The estimat-j ^ ed cost of the building content-1 plated is $10,0oo or Si?.??. J probaoly and preferably the1 latter figure. The Methodists of our community without out-' .side help are amply able to buiid such a house of worship , without serious sacrifice on the if part of any individual under the plan proposed, if all the membership will give according to their means. Already hoif rkf th#? r>ror>osed ttwul "?"* tr -j. amount has been pledged and we have little doubt that the balance required will soon be forthcoming. As we have had occasion to remark before, the churches of! Kingstree are a sad commentary upon the spiritual condition ot our community. The visitor who looks over the town is impressed with the idea that if the churches here are a correct index, the spirituality of our people is at a decidedly low ebb. We have handsome public building's, a fine hotel, a splendid school edifice and elegant private residences? * 11 jtflen iook atour nouses ui wuri ship! Surely ,the God we praise, "from whom all blessings flow," is worthy at least as beauteous a sanctuary as we provide for ourselves. But apart from spiritual considerations, we say with all confidence in the truth of the y assertion, that good churches p^^and schools are the best in vest-1 ment that a community can! L' * make from a material standpoint. In the vernacular of the K2., street, it is good "business" to ^provide these things, and un til 'they are provided the ^B^Vjpeople of a town?whatever progress they have made along K other lines?will find that the I growth and prosperity' of the community will languish be W fore reaching the highest point IB' of development to which they are capable of attaining. The money for the building will be raised on the easy pay ? O/i.1. A. - 1 / ~ ment plan?oniy one-aim ic oc paid cash and the balance in four years in equal installments. For people in moderate circumstances this plan makes the burden as light as possible and at the same time the money can be secured on the notes . that are given to proceed with the work at once. The Methodists have made a good start and we hope and believe that their efforts will meet with1 success and that i they may soon hold services in a modern house of worship, j one that will be a credit to the ' congregation and to the town, Should their hopes be realized f'? ' the example will be followed, we venture to say, by the other denominations, and in a fewyears instead of apologizing . for the antiquated structures i ^ that the town has long since outgrown, we will take pleasure '" nfinrr ftltt tr? Mrs Shaw, whose home is in Charleston, is here at present with her daughter, Mrs D M Epps. With intermissions of but short duration rain poured down all day Friday. However, after a few hours ot sunshine and wind even signs of the water rapidly passed out of sight. So very dry is the earth that were we to have heavy rain every da}' or two for three months we would probab ly still be behind in rainfall. Mr O S Baldwin, who was recently appointed magistrate at this place, has qualified and been commissioned, and a day or so ago tried his first case. Mr L M Belk has been appointed constable for Magistrate Baldwin. Last Saturday Constable L M Belk, without a moment's rest, cried off goods at auction for three and a half hours, and when lie ceased he was only slightly hoarse and could still ''holler." It is said that Drs M L> Nesraitb and G C Bodgers will open up a drug business in the near future and have secured quarters in the Singletary building now going up. W L B. I FresUeit Helps Orpkais. I lost a great deal of sleep, which together with constant worry left me in such a nervous state that finally, after having two collapses of j nervous prostration, I was obliged to give up traveling al! together. I doctored continually ; but with no relief. Dr. Miles' j Nervine came to my rescue? I ' cannot describe the suffering ' which this Nervine saved me. Whenever I am particularly nervous a few doses relieve me." A. G. C. LIBBY, Wells, Me. There are many nervous wrecks. There is nervous prostration of the stomach, of the bowels, and other organs. The brain, the kidneys, the liver, the nerve centers are all exhausted. There is but one thing to do? build up the nervous system by the use of Dr. Miles' Restorative Nervine. Its strengthening influence upon the nervous system restores normal action to the organs, and when they all work in harmony, health is assured. Get a bottle from your druggist. Take it all according to directions, and if it does not benefit he will return your money. r - ' ' i i -ir-m im "Q m k n (Prickly Ash, Poke Koot and PotaMlnm.) ??MA^PS POSITrVE CCRF-3 OP ALL POEMS AND STAGES OP i jjin-na???p^???????
