Letter Carriers Not Required to Col| tect Loose Coins from Mail Boxes. | The postoftice department has jsent out the following letter to postmasters: 'In view of the extenbto which the practice of placing loose coins in boxes by rural patrons has grown ami the delay in the delivery and collection of mail imposed upon rural carriers incident thereto, you are informed that, commencing February 15, proximo, rural letter carriers will not be required to collect loose coins from rural mail boies. Patrons should enclose coins in an envelope, wrap them securely in a piece of paper, or deposit them in a coin-holding receptacle, so that they can be easily and quickly taken from boxes, and carriers will be requested to lift such coins, and, where accompanied by mail for dispatch, attach the requisite stamps." Mr James F Chaidler Dead. Once more it becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of an old-time friend, Mr James F Chandler, who died Sunday, I January 30. at his home, near Nesmith postofRce,aftera lingering illness. Mr Chandler was born and lived to manhood at Cedar Swamp, almost in sight of the old home where the writer hereof first saw the light Mr Chandler was one of that gallant band of dashing young patriots, who at the outbreak of hostilities, hurried forth from old Cedar Swamp in response to , their country's call, eager to lay , down their young lives, if need I be, on the altar of patriotism. At the annual re-unions of the ' veterans which have been held in Kingstree for several years 1 Mr Chandler was always present when able to be here. He seem5 ed to feel a keen delight in min-1 gling with his old comrades and recounting with them experiences away back in the 60's. He was ' of a genial, kindly nature, a good neighbor, and we doubt if he had 1 an enemy. Mr Chandler married Mrs Gordon of Nesmith and had lived in ' ?1 o numKor ftf tnai cuiiimuuiij' iui a imiuuvi V* years- Except his wife, who 1 survives him, he leaves no im1 mediate family. NANCE-DANIEL A Williamsburg Teacher Pays Warm Tribute to Distinguished Educator. i Teachers, Trustees, Patrons and Friends of the Rural Schools of Williamsburg County:? It gives me great pleasure to announce to you the fact of Mrs Mary T Nance-Daniel's re-election to the cftice of State president of the Rural Imnrnromrnt ae^i inn. and I do most earnestly beseech you, on the part of your schools, your county and your State, to meet Mrs Daniel at least half way in this mammoth undertaking on her part for the benefit of "tne children of to-day, the men and women of the great to-morrow." Mrs Danie^ work should be too well known U, mo3t of you to need any explanation here. Mrs Daniel is not working for a reputation. She is working for the boys and girls of South Carolina, who will in turn call her noble for having spoken words of life to them. Mrs Daniel carries with her the power to inspire and arouee the indifferent. It is very necessary that she pay each district a visit this year* The extreme rural districts are her favorite hannts. It is here that fathers, mothers and children are often _ found in the densest ignorance, and to these unfortunate people she directs her special attention. If you are so fortunate as to belong to the more favored class, you are in a position to lend a helping hand tc Mr6 Daniel, in order that she may be the means of elevating your neighborhood, your county and the citizenship of your State, "which is your reasonable service."
