The first witness to testify was
the little girl whom the negro assaulted.
On motion of the Solicitor
the court-room was cleared during
her testimony. The evidence
she gave was clear and convincing,
leaving no doubt in the minds
of tnose who heard her simple,
direct recital of the terrible ordeal
she had experienced that the negro
was guilty beyond a reasonable
doubt. There was nothing sensational
in the testimony of the
witness and the reason for clearing
the court-room was mainly to
