18, and awarded prizes to the
3o schools of the State showing the
greatest improvement during the |?aat
^ear. The prizes giveu amounted to

Miss Theodosia Dargan, president
of the association, said at the conclusion
of the session that the reports
of the contesting schools showed that
there had been marked improvement
during the past year in consolidation
building!?, grounds, equipment of
rooms and fixtures, average attendance,
enrollment, teaching forces
and local taxation, also that there
had been formed during the year a
number of local associations.
There were present at the meeting
yesterday Miss Theodosia Dargan,
president; Mrs Dora Lee Walker,
vice presideut; Miss Lizzie Rogers,
recording secretary; Miss Elise
JRudd, treasurer; Louisa B Poppenheim,
chairman of the executive
committee, First district; Fannie
Oeighton, Third district; Flora
McKelvey, Fourth district and
Marie Willoughby, Sixth district,
Miss U May Padgett of the Second
district being absent.

There were a number of pictures
of the contesting schools sent in besides
the required detailed report.
There are 28 county organizations
of the association.

Patterson Wardlaw, L T Baker and
Ifl 0 Davis, professors of the Uni,
versity of South Carolina, called and

Miss Dargan, has succeeded Mis

? to fill?and she has filled it acceptably.

A terrible wreck occurred on the
Southern railway near Greensboro,
N. 0., last week. Fourteen people
were killed outright and more than
a score hurt, several fatally.
Two South Carolinians are on the

Boyd Evans of Columbia wants to
be district attorney for South Carolina,

An election has been ordered by
the Governor to decide the question
of whether or not a part of Berkeley
will be annexed to Orangeburg.
