Mood1. Oecembtr 2u:?On Decv
ember 1 our graded school building'
' was completed and turned over to
the trustees ready for occupancy.
On the same day the school was opened
with an enrollment of ^0 pu-|

cherished hope <.,f those of our poo-!
pie who are interested in the mental
training and culture of the younger
generation and have made sacriliees,
to give larger opportunities for the
education of the children of this
community. It was a proud day
for Moody wheu the new building
became an actuality and an impetus
has been given to local educational
conditions that must crystallize into
au lnnuence 01 perniaueut >aiu<r.
^ Teachers and pupils, as well as the
H patrons, have caught the esprit du
A corps and entered upon their work
with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Last Friday night in the school
. building a very enjoyable entertainment
was given, which was participaled
in by a great many people,
both vonng and old, of our commun|B
ity and all seemed to have a good
time. At 7 o'clock the crowd beI
gan to gather and supper was served
at 7:30. The tables, and the impromptu
dining hall as well, were
decorated with evergreens, ferns,
wild smilax and Christmas berries,
. all iu^their pristine beauty and
' verdure, while the festive board
fairly groaued with all the dehcacieB
of the season in bountiful profusion
and variety, prepared with that
culinary skill for which the good
housewives of this community are
justly famous.
For dessert there were served
mauy kinds of delicious fruits and
other toothsome and appetizing
comestibles.
Besides the supper quite a lot of
fancy articles were sold, one of the
prettiest being a beautiful sofapillow,
the haudiwork of the fair
principal of the school. Miss Mary
Gibson. This beautiful and artistic
creation was sold to the
highest bidder and brought the
handsome sum of $37.50. Several
cakes were also raffled off, and all of
them brought 8"tisfactory prices.?
The crab buc furnished amusement!
for the children who were present.
Sweet mnsie was disconrsed for
the occasion by Miss liertie
^ Flowers and Mr W J Parker of
Andrews.
The proceeds of the entertain:,.
t ment amounted to $102.50 which,
L% after deducting the necessary e?n
pease will be applied to the
equipment of the new school
f building.
The writer heard several old
IHpf gentlemen present remark that
this entertainment was quite the
pleasantest that they had ever attended.
The crowd assembled
I** numbered about 250 people and
the silly misbehavior which so
J often, mars the pleasure of similar
occasions was conspicuous by its
absenoe. There were people present

away impressed with the hospitality
of our people and with a lively
appreciation of a social event that
would have reflected credit on

A CALL DOWN.
Tnc CT c. i,- Comment When the
K : CK Got to Him.
"Good ui- riling. Johnson," said
the president ulien the general
manager sto ?d before liim. "Do
you know there seems to have been
a little falling oft in the work of
tlie otlice for the last month? No
catastrophe or anything of that
sort, you know, l??it the standard of
ouiciency seems to have lowered
just a little. 1 merely wanted to
call your attention to it. Nothing
more. Nice day. isn't it ?"
"Say, iBrunuer,'" said tin? general
manager to the otlice manager, "do
you know your ol'iee foree is tailing
down? Well, it is. For the period
just passed there has been a drop in
your system that made considerable
trouble. I'd jerk somebody up if 1
were you. A hint to the wise, you
know."
"Wilson," said the otlice manager
to the chief clerk, "come here. I
want to tell you one thing, and that
is that there's got to be a change in
the way things are going around
this dump. Do you hear me?
What's the matter? What'6 the
matter! That's a fine question from
IT*1 I J 1 Il_ ? _ XI
you: \> nai isn i ine mauer is me
proper thing to ask. Things have
been going to the dogs for a month
past. I'm not laying the fault at
your door?all of it anyhow?but
you know what that means, falling
down. Get a hustle on you, now,
and see that your clerks don't keep
falling down or?I leave the rest to
your imagination."
"Say, you prize mutts," said the
chief clerk to his underlings, "do
you know what's going to happen to
about half a dozen of you? You're
going to get decorated with a large,
shiny tin can if you don't smoke up
and do better work than you've been
guilty of for the last month. You've
been working like a lot of sewer
diggers. I never saw anything to
beat vou?for the cellar champion
ship. Now, get busy and do things,
and do them right. I'd hate to have
to recommend a wholesale canning
stunt, but?you know what I'm
here for."
The clerks went humbly back to
their desks. Out to them came the
office boy with a grin on his face.
"Say," he began, but three voices
cut him short.
"Blank, blank, blank you!" said
the voices. "You little runt! Why
don't you tend to your business, so
we can get things done right?"
Then they all took a kick at him
and went back to work satisfied.
"Gee," said the office boy, rubbing
his sore spots and eying the
president's office, "gee, but that
call down certainly traveled some!"

Rest After Meals.
Ilurried eating of meals, followed
immediately by some employment
that occupies the whole attention
and takes up all or nearly
all of the physical energies, is suie
to result in dyspepsia in one form
or another. Sometimes it shows
itself in excessive irritability, a
sure indication that nerve force has
been exhausted.
The double draft, in order to digest
the food and carry on the business,
has been more than nature
could stand without being thrown
out of balance. Nature does not do
two things at a time and do both
well as a rule. All know that when
a force is divided it is weakened.
If the meal were eaten slowly, without
preoccupation of the mind, and
the stomach allowed at least half an
hour's chance to get its work well
undertaken before the nervous
force were turned in another direction
patients suffering from dyspepsia
would be comparatively few.?
