Mrs. Butler Entertains.
i
On last Friday evening Mrs
B W Butler was "at liotne" to a
number of her young friends, i
the occasion being her birthday.
The hospitable home of the
hostess^was thrown wide open
to the !1 and every trace
I of formality was lost sight in
the hearty welcome accorded
! them. Thejoung people were
! not long in taking advantage
J of the man}' privileges ex'
tended and every one felt as
much at home as Mrs Butler
! herself.
The guests were received and
welcomed at the door by Mr
and Mrs Butler and, after extending
congratulations to Mrs
Kntlor Txroro rnnrlnr-tpd tf> thi*
punch bowl, which was presided
over by Miss Louise Bass
of Lanes and Mr E L Montgomery.
After partaking of
this delicious beverage the
yonng people were left to enjoy
themselves in any of the
many ways that were open to
them, most of them soon becoming
engrossed in the fascinating
games at the many card
tables which were placed in
the halls and parlor. After
enjoying themselves for a while
in this manner supper was announced.
The dining-room was
decorated in Japanese effect,
Japanese candles furnishing the
light. The tables were indeed
"things of beauty" in their
handsome and artistic arrangement,
the menu consisting of
barbecue, salads, seaming
coffee, breads and cakes f all
descriptions, olives and pic :les.
It is needless to mention that
everyone present did ample
i justice to the sumptuous repast,
i (Right here the writer rises to
I remark that the barbecue was
the best that it has ever been
his good fortune to partake of,
and he has been eating barbefor
"lo, these many years.")
After supper the guests were
invited to participate in an
' "observation contest". Miss
Odessa Montgomery was the
' lucky winner of the first prize,
which was a beautiful siik tan;
Miss Leah Townsend won the
booby prize.
It was in the "wee stria'
hours" of the morning when
the guests reluctantly departed
; for their several homes, with
: nothing but praise for Mr and
j Mrs Butler s manner of enterI
taining.
The following were among
those invited: Dr and Mrs W
