Last week our friend. Mr S E
I
IcCullough, who resides near
'aft, presented us with a bag
f nice peaches, also iu the bag
ras noted a sprig- otY the tree
nth several peach blossoms |
hereon. Fully matured ripe i
>eaches on October 211! As our
.ake City correspondent has
epeatedly remarked: "Verily
he products of our wonderful
oil and climate are illimiable."
Mr Sam P Matthews, who has
een spending a week here mu-;
ually delightful to his friends;
nd himself, left Monday after '
oon for the long and arduous
t?turn trip to his Texas home. :
Ir "Sam I"' says that Taft:
nd Cook may have a little1
lore formality attending their |
eception in touring over the
ountry, but certainly there is
ot more royal welcome or
enuine hospitality accorded ;
hem than the entertainment
rovided him by his Williams
ur<?- kinsfolk and friends after
n absence of thirty-live years.
Packhouse and Tobacco Burned
The alarm of lire was sounded
bout <1:30 Tuesday afternoon, one of
lie pack-houses of the Fanners' toacco
warehouse being on lire. When
lie lire was discovered thellames had
lade good headway and nothing
oultl be done to save the building or
he contents.
The pack-house contained a lot ot
jbucco and some lumber used for
laking tobacco hogsheads, all being
he property of Mr \V K Mcintosh.
File entire loss will approximate
1, 500, which, we understand, i?
artially covereJ by insurance.
No one stems to know what caused
he lire. Several theories have been
uggested, the most probable one be-,
Dg that the building was struck by ,
ightuing and the lire resulted tlieiet-ojii.
Par-tips who first saw the tire
ay that it caught from the roof, '
inch seems to bear out the lighting
theory.
