TOBACCO SEASON CLOSES HERE. \ h!\gstrfe\S ./ \i\: f PKB.NOl.VCEiJ suras ir* .snus bkighe CUTKillh >X. Nr\r SEASON'. Tk a v. : ?acc?> market will c'??<c tomorrow tor tin- -.en^o;:. ami the warehousemen am! their attaches, except a few who have other business here, will jjo to i MM. . the;: resjx-ctive nomes. i mHk soil. >1-1 whole, has Ken most e".:b!\ing one. far more .so, in tact, than was anticipated even In the most sanguine. The total .sales for the reason, we fire relial?1> informed, amount to ~-'"'>>\er a million and a half pounds. A million pounds is said to be the minimum for a successful market, and to exceed [this quantity by more than fifty, per cent must be exceedingly gratifying to the promoters of the enterprise, as well as the friends of the town generally. The fact that when the principal buyer came on this market lie was ordered to stay only until September 1. his firm thinking that the business done here would not warrant his presirs lmnr<->r when the buyer referred actualh remained unjj^B til October 15, shows conclusiveHH ly whether or not the initial year of Kingst roe's tobacco market has Ken a success. HBK And the K*st part of it is that everybody seems pleased with the out-come. Tlu- producers all sa> they are well pleased with the H prices paid and that they will ^B plant a bigger crop next year. The fact is. the farmers in the territor> were extreme^B ly skeptical about plantingtime a- to whether there would be any warehouses here, and even H some j?eople in town professed little fflith in the enterprise. This Pf condition, of course, deterred t many planters adjacent to this market from taking chances on growing tobacco and not finding a convenient market for disposing ? of tlieir product. But all that is I' changed. Both the warehouses will he o]K*rated on full time next season and so sanguine are | men wise to the situation of the prospects for next season, that we have heard strong talk of a third warehouse here. The merchants and business men along all lines have felt the quickening influence of the new ^ enterprise in stimulating business. The tobacco money has enabled the farmers to meet their most pressing obligations, which leaves them their cotton money, or the greater part of it. to spend as they please. This must necessarily mean ? ' a better fall business, short crop considered, than ever before. And most of our merchants speak most optimistically of big daily sales and trade picking up as the season advances. The banks here especially have enjoyed their share of the general prosperity, the deposits of the Bank of Kingstree and the Bank of Williamsburg combined closely ap proximating the halt-muiion marK. With these facts in view the people of Kings tree have every reason to be- proud of their tobacco market and to look forward to the next season with buoyant hope and confidence. It is early for predictions. but if a normal tofbacco crop be made next year, we bespeak for Kingstree not less than three million pounds. ^ pOR economy in the table expenses increase the amount of OuakerOats; eat it \ at least twice a day. it does more than other foods and costs only a fraction as much. ?
