The vigorous campaigns' conducted by the prohibitionist j leaderslu all the counties resulted, in the great majority of counties in j the downfall of the dispensary and in decisive victories for prohibition. J' ing a committee, corseting of1 Trustees Tillman, Wannamaker and j Evans, waited on Dr Mell to advise j him that the board of trustees had , unanimously adopted the recom-( mendations of the special committee I providing for changes in the bylaws of the college as suggested by ' him when he tendered his resig- j nation in June. The committee! told Dr Mell that full consideration I had been given to the environments \ surrounding him, that his personal; wishes in the matter had been considered, and that the board had made frtl* Vl \ J ilA auau^ill^ll Aw* U4W OVTV4MUVW MW president from the college. The committee asked Dr Mel), however, to remain president of the institution until his successor could be chosen. In reply, Dr Mell thanked the members of the board , for the consideration shown in the matter, and said be would gladly remain as president until January 1 nest, in which time he hopes a suit, able man can be elected. There will be several other changes in the personnel of the faculty of the college at the next term. Mrs. Lougworth has received two baby antelopes from the jungle. SCR anton, August 17:--Aftera long and painful illuess Mrs Elizabeth Cockfield, wife of Mr W W H Cockfield, died at her residence this morning at 9 o'clock.' Mrs Ccekfield was a daughter of the late Solomon McClam, of this county, and was twice married. Her first husband, Mr Middleton Nettles, preceded her to" the grave some years ago, afterwards she married \Y \V H Cockheld, of Florence county. Mrs Cock field was a sister to Messrs J S and Jefferson McClani of Lake City. The funeral services will be held to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock at the Cockfield cemetery by her pastor, the Rev J W Trulcck, after which the body will be laid to rest. She is survived by her hnsband, seven daughters and two sons.
