St George's last Friday by a telegram
apprising him of the extreme
illness of his sister, Miss
India Fairy. There was no
| preaching at the Methodist
church Sunday in consequence
of the pastor's absence.
Miss Page Newman, who has
been visiting her friend Miss
Eleanor Gourdin, returned last
week to her home in the Old
Dominion, leaving in the cardiac
region of several susceptible
youths an aching void where
once beat a loving heart.
Mi A M McOall, who is well
remembered here as cotton buy- j
er lor Alexander Sprunt several
years ago, drove across country
in his auto Monday from Florence,
making the trip in good
time. We are glad to know that
although Mr McCall has joined
the auto class, he does not give
his old friends in Kingstree the
go-by.
Mr Itaymond N Spigner has
been elected piincipal of Kingstree
High school. Mr Spigner
has taught the Prospect school,
at Leo, in this county, for the
past two years and we believe
he will make us an excellent
teacher, being a polished gentleman,
with a good collegiate
training enhanced by successtui
experience in school teaching.
Miss Leah Townsend of Florence,
who is also highly recommended
has been elected a grade
teacher. As soon as the vacancies
have all been filled the entire
list of teachers will be
published.

Monday to get Sam Cannon,
alias Antrum Cannon, the negro !
who about two years ago entered i
the dwelling of Mr W F Kenne- |

bended. At the time it occurred 1
feeling ran high against the ne-i
gro for his bold and outrageous i
act and had he been captured
then it is probable that he would
ha-. % been roughly handled. At
this time, however, while the act
is no less severely condemned, :
the law will no doubt be allowed
to mete out punishment to the
miscreant.
