There came near being a very
bad accident at Alain street
railroad crossing Saturday morning.
As train No 80 was leaving
the station, the pay train
was coming next the station on
the pass track. As 80 cleared
the crossing, Ben O'Neill, a negro,
riding horseback, attempted
to cross ahead of the pay
train, but the train was so near
that the horse became frightened,
and started down the track.
The negro finally managed to
get the horse off the track, but
not until the train was in about
two feet of the horse. It was
certainly a hair-breadth escape.
