urday night, February 13. The
funeral services and interment >
took place Tuesday morning fol-!
lowing1 at Bethesda church. The!
ministers conducting the funeral !
services were Presiding Elder
Carlisle and Rev \V A Fairy of
Kingstree and Rev \V L Wait ot
Lake City. Rev Mr McKissick
was assigned to Cades circuit at
the last session of the annual
Conference and was only fairly
started in his work. Following!
is a sketch of the deceased:
Rev Eli Murchison "McKissick
was born June 2Q,1S52. He was j
the son of Mr Eli McKissick and
Mrs Clarsey McKissick, originally
of Marion county but now
of Florence.
He was educated at Mars Bluff'
academy under I'rois Scott and j
< lay ton. He resided with his fa I

afterwards until 1872, when he
went to Georgia.
He was converted at the age
of 13 years under the ministry
of llev J B Campbell and at 14
years old felt called of Cod to
the work of the ministry. lie
moved to Georgia in 1*72 and in
.July of that year was licensed
to exhort, in June, 1874, he was,
licensed to preach, Itev George
Yarborough of North Georgia
conference being the presiding
elder. He served as supply on
Okmulgee circuit, Georgia, from
1*75-8 and moved to South Carolina
in 1879. He was received
at the session of the Conference
held in Darlington in 1891, the
following being among the num
ber of charges he served: blue
Kidge mission, 1892-3; South
lhanchville, 1894; Cypress cirion;

1>9S 1900; Ehrhardt Circuit, 1901;
East Lancaster, 1908.
While on Blue llidge mission
lie built three new churches and
added 100 to the membership.
On South Branchville he added
1*23, and on Cypress 05. W hile
at Ilarleyville over 100 were
added and he built a new parsonage
and furnished it.
So we see the ^ood brother's
labors have been owned and
blessed of Goci in the salvation
of souls and the advancement of
the church. He was a good revivalist,
preaching* a plain, sim
pie gospel that reached the
hearts of the people.
He was married twice. First,
on November 27, 1860. to Miss
Ellen Fountain.} His second
marriage was to Miss Helen l*a I ston,
on August 12, 1872. The
latter and twelve children survive
him.

that Motley sold a tract of land!
in Virginia for $3,800 just before ,
he left Lake City. The deedj
was drawn in the writer's office,

hence the statement. Now, the!
information comes to us that
the deed, unsigned, has been!
found in Motley's room and that!
he did not own any land in Vir- i
ginia. Then why did he have!
the deed preparedv All sorts!
of rumors are afloat, se'nsational
and otherwise, but we shall not
repeat these rumors for the very
reason that they are only ru- j
mors. The facts will come out,
in a few days now However,!
all the circumstances seem to [
show that Motley left with noj
intention of returning and that!
he does not care for his wherea-!
abouts to be known.

John I) Kelley of Charlestonj
came up Saturday and is still in
town on business.
The sympathy felt here for
Mr Winslow Wright was marked
and widespread. Scarcely ever
have we known our people to
feel so keenly and unitedly that
a near and dear friend had suffered
a terrible blow, and the
feeling of indignation toward
the dastardly scoundrel who
caused the loss is not loud but
deep?deeper than we care to
tell. No man in this section is
held in higher esteem than Mr
Wright.
When the news of Mr Wright's
tire came to a certain "drummer"
in a Manning- hotel it made
him blue, blue. He had hoped
to place a big bill next day with
the unfortunate. Soon a telegram
came: "Co to Scranton to
morrow. Sell Winslow Wright
anything he will buy." That's
just it. The sender of that mes
sage knew the man Winslow
Wright. Can more be said of
anyone.
A neatly dressed and plausible
white man saw the inside of
the '-local refrigeratoi" last
week. He is an insurance agent,

magistrate to take charge.
