A BAD PIECE BF ROAD.
Highway Ceoiectiog Rome Pestefflce
and Union Church Almost Impassable.
Editor County Record:?
Kindly allow me space in your
valuable columns to call the attention
of the public and the officers in !
authority to the dreadful condition
of the road lying between Rome
]h)stoffice and Union church in the
lower part of Williamsburg county.
It seems to us that this piece of road
has been sadly neglected, as its present
condition will show, and should
dernaud immediate attention from
the proper county officials. We
whose lot it falls to travel over this
piece of road quite often can best
testify to its present condition. It 1
leads directly to the Union High
school and the teachers and a majority
of the pupils are forced to travel
over it daily in order to reach their
school. There is alto a great deal of
other traveling constantly going 011
over this road, but it fast reachiug ,
the stage when it will be impartible, .
and I think the eoouer the better, ,
unless its present condition be improved
on. The writer has seen
wagons loaded with goods broker
down and bales of cottou dumped
along in the mud and ditches all on '
- ttfriwit nt its awful condition, li
tthneWfertp to be haitf We have
iMMflSaaESOus rumors as to what the
incoming officers would do with it. 1
Some have even said that it would i
be shelled. Now, this is all encour- i
aging of course, but the citizens of <
the community who are forced to
cross it dailv, as well as those of ne
who*only pass that way occasionally, j
would prefer to see some of these rumors
put into effect, rather than to
hear so much talk. The good people
of that community would appreciate
a good road as much as anyone would ,
and they certainly hare been patient i
and long-suffering in this case, and |
we hope that proper authorities will ! J
eee the gr^at need of immediate at- j
tention and come hastily to the res- j
cue. Traveler.
