The tenth yratie held a class
meetiny the other Jay for the
purpose of yettiny up some sta- ]
tistics about the members. We <
have already elected our class j
officers for this year: Ilallie (
McCollough, presideut, and Eu- <
nice Kennedy, secretary and j
treasurer. Our colors are old (
gold and blue and our motto, }
"Facta non Verba." In order
to carry out our motto, "Deeds .
not Words,'* we wish to be do- 1
mmg things, not talking about i
them all the time. The statis- <
tics were as follows (please bear ;
in mind that the tenth grade has i
eight girls and only one boy in
it):?
Prettiest?Eunice Kennedy.
Sweetest?Hallie McCollough.
Smartest?Clara Montgomery.
Mostdetermined?Clara Montgomery.

Mayor L W Gilland was pre- j
vented trom delivering: his
speech'on last Friday by una- '
voidable circumstances. We
were very much disappointed ,
but hope to hear Mr Gilland at '
some other time after the Christ- .
mas holidays.
Or Tuesday, December 8th,
Mr Mahaffey came to the school
house and conducted the chapel .
, ~ exercises for the last time. It
V made us feel very sad to know ^
that never again while we were ^
there would Mr Mahaffey be j
with us. We are also very, very
sorry to lose Iva from among
our friends of the ninth grade.
r The girls and boys of the high
school are very diligent in their
studies this year. They indulge
, in no other "sport" than playing
tennis. The boys of the
athletic club have been very nice
to the tenth grade girls and ,
have not only allowed them to ,
play on the tennis court but |
Vhave taught us how to play. Ev- j
cry afternoon there are a num- j
ber of us at the tennis grounds |
indulging in this pleasant pas- ^
time. The exercise thus given (
our bodies renders our brains .
clear and able to lake in the lessons
for next day.
Our whole school is all astir
this week. Most of the grades
have a number of examinations
to stand and that is a sufficient
cause of disturbance among
them. Then the minstrel boys
are straining every nerve and
practicing every day to get
ready for Thursday night at Salters
and Friday night here. On
Friday afternoon the Literary
Society has a meeting, so it will
" certainly be a busy week for
some of us. But if the minstrel?
the last act of the school year
of 1908?is only a success, we
. shall not mind the work and
worry and shall be able to spend
the Christmas holidays in per
feet happiness. The boys are
doing their best to make their
part of it a success. The rest
ilepends upon the public whether
they come or not. We hope that
^everyone that can possibly do so
will come Friday night and that
|H our auditorium will be full to
overflowing. A B.

The Smith's Greater Shows
Will arrive Sunday afternoon
and open Monday night, December
28, in this town the coming
week. Kingstree will for the
first time in its history witness
a carnival. People of Kingstree
have attended attractions of
this kind in neighboring towns
and are familiar with the plans
upon which the carnivals are
:onducted and the style and
:lass of shows which usually
make up the fair. On this score
the manager of the Smith's

Mr McQrk says
