in town to spend the Thanksgiving
A holidavs.
Tuesday night the young ladies
of Kingstree entertained the young
men at a leap year oyster roast. The
charmiug affair was held at the residence
of Mr and Mrs P 1> Thorn,
whose daughters, Misses Marie and
Selma Thorn, acted as hostesses to
the jolly crowd of young people who
were assembled. The voung ladies
called for their partners and escorted
them to the party in true leapyear
style. The afternoon was quite
arr'informal one and thoroughly en11.

crowd gathered in the kitchen and
butler 8 pantry and the oysters were
roasted on top of the range, with
Miss Cora Garner of Darlington and
MrJD Gilland as chief cooks.
Along with the oysters, crackers,
cheese straws, olives, pickles, etc.,
i were served buffet style.
Among those present were: Mr
and Mrs P B Thorn, Miss Maude
Logan, Mr Walter B Logan, Miss
Ruby Thorn, Mr W S Gilland,with
Miss Selma Thorn, Mr Otis Kibler
with Miss Marie Thorn, Mr J D
" "Gilland with Miss Cora Garner, Mr
Lamar Montgomery with Miss TalK

Miss Barbara Jacobs, Mr Matthew
Montgomery with Miss Erckmann,
Mr George McElveen with Miss
Campbell, Mr P G Gourdin with
Miss Gale, Mr J W Cook with Miss
Mamie Jacobs.
The young ladies were so generous
in their provision of oysters that
< there were enough left to have a
second roast on Wednesday night.
A good many of* the same crowd
gathered again in the hospitable
Thorn home and a happy evening
, was spent with music and dancing.
^ Thanksgiving passed quietly in
Kiugstree. Most of the men shouldered
their ttuns aud fishiug canes
and took to the woods. There were
, various family gatherings on a
small scale and the day was a hap
py, though <iuiet one. It seemed
almost like summer, the air was so
balmy, and the streets were enlivened
with gaily sauntering people. The
many white dresses were in thorough
keeping with the summer-like aspect
of the day.
On Friday evening Mrs T M Gilland
entertained informally in houor
of her popular guest, Miss Theo
Gregg of Sumter, who is an everwelcome
visitor in Kingstree.
The young people spent the evening
in dancing and music. Miss
Cora Garner's 6inging added much
to the pleasure of the evening and
Miss Selnia Thorn delighted everyone
with her brilliant piano music.
The night was so mild that the piazzas
were popular resorts and couples
were scatteied in various nooks
and corners.

following: Misses Mamie, Etta and
Barbara Jacobs, Lily and Belle Eryin,
