Some time ago your scribe made
mention of a field of corn planted
at Hai|?ers by Mr W S Catnliu, Jr.,
on the Williamson plan and stated
that the result of his experiment
would be given later iu The Record.
Mr Cumliu gathered this
corn last week and it measured 4.")
bushels to the acre. The cost of
producing this corn was 32 1-2
cents a bushel, coveriug the entire
expense. This being Mr ('amiins
fCst. experience iu the "stunting
process," he thinks he stunted it
too much; the corn being of au early
I variety was nearly taseehng before it
14 was ploughed the first time. Mr
H Cam 1 in will repeat his experiment

Gets Stake Races~Big
Entries.

year. The fair opens October 26th and
loses October 3>th. There will be four
lays of racing. Already five stake
races have been arranged for trotters
md pacers. Purses will be ofTered for
>th harness and running horses.
Between JS.O'ki.OO and J7.000.00 has
offered as prizes for these races,
fhe attractive prizes, together with ths
act that >c many of the Northern and
i.'astern tracks have had trouble with
the racers, will make the entries hers

Strings of horses from the most re.owned
.^tables In the country will bs
'-.ere fair week. With the races nearly
two months off, the entries, for the
stake races counted up to ninety-three,
and It is expected that more than a
hundred of America's finest racers will
be entered tot the stake races.
The purse races will be much above
I the average this year. More money la
I offered and better horses will be raced.
The tra- k has been put In apple pie
order and the grandstands enlarged
and reworked. This was necessary to
I accommodate the immense crowds that
will witness all of the races during fair
week, this being the first of the series
in the Virginia-Carolina Circuit.
There will be other sports. Davidson
College plays Clemson on Wednesday,
and the University of South Carolina
