Kingstkbh, October 9.?The
regular fall meeting of Harmony 1
presbytery adjourned on Thursday
afternoon, after having been in session 1
since Tuesday noon. The people of
<Kingstree appreciated the honor of
having presbtery m*t within their
gates and as it had been 15years since
the last time that honor was conferred
on tbeoi, the n e.t ngs were attended
with peculiar interest and enthusiasm.
The ministers and elders attending
were all entertained at the homes of
members of Williamsburg church,
who tried to show them every hospi -I:*...

^ The meeting was opened at noon
Tuesday with a religious service.
Rev W H Workman of Salem brick
church, retiring moderator, preached
rthe opening sermon. After the
close of the servioe the- business
session was called, at which Rev H
A Knox of Mayesville was elected -
| moderator and Kev K L tirier tern-j
porary clerk. The roll was called
by the stated clerk. Rev W S Porter,
and the meeting adjourned till 3 o'
clock, when a business session was i
held* <
At 8 o'clock religious services i
were held. Rev W H McWeeo, of
Mt. Zioo church, preached an elo- i
quent sermon at the close of whieh <
a business session was called. The i
subject for discussion was the "Sunday-school
Institute", which is a
regular summer school for Sunday- <
school teachers. Rev J P Marion I
of Sumter read the report of the i
committee on the subject and an I
interesting discussion ensued. ]
Presbytery convened at 9 am, i
and discussed the report of the com- t
mittee on the work of the Columbia c
seminary. At this meeting the Rev c
James McDowell, D D., pastor of j
' Bethel and Midway churches, asked c
that his pastoral relations with those (
churches be dissolved ou account of ?
his increasing years and delicate c
r'" health. Dr McDowell's request was i
granted and he was given permission ]

ful and touching. Dr McDowell is 1
known and beloved throughout the 1

At 11 o'clock a preaching service
was held and the congregation was
delighted to hear Rev J 1* Marion,
the eloquent young pastor of the
Sumter church. After the regular
service communion services were held,
it which Dr James McDowell ami
Dr W J McKay, pastor of Concord
church, presided.
At the close of the communion
service a short memorial service for
the late Rev Darnell, who for years
was pastor of the Indian town church,
was held. An eloquent memorial
sketch, prepared by the committee,
Rev E E Ervin and Mr Hugh Mo
Ontchei), was rea l effectively by the
latter. Presbytery then adjourned
till 3 o'clock, when a business session
was held.
At 8 o'clock Wednesday evening
the missionary conference was conducted
by the Rev W S Porter of
Summerton. This was a most interesting
meeting to all present. The
speakers on home missions were

was taken up during the
evening and the sum realized was $89.
Presbytery convened again on
Thursday morning at 9 o'clock and a
business session was held, at which
the subject of the forward movement
in missions was discussed. At 12
o'clock a preaching service was held
sod the Rev J 0 Rowan of Camden,
reoent graduate of the Columbia
seminary, preached a forceful and
striking sermon. At the close of
the service a abort business session
was held before the recess for dinner.
