| Harpers, August 3:?Mr Edi1
tor, our Httle town on the G W
j railroad is put down in history at
I tliH bottom round of the ladder, but
' she does a nr^'-business second to
none. Our? i^nt postmaster, Mr
J W Poston, o your scribe that
he sent out from his office on July
JO two thousand letters. At that
: rate Uncle Sam will have to raise J
W Poston's pay. This may seem to
some people untrue, but it can be
proved to be true.
Our community suffered last
I Thursday, the 30th ult., a storm of
heavy rains ^*"^ch we fear will injure
cotton ops.
The Harj rs Gin Co is now at
work setting "^ir machinery in
j place aud have lei *be contract for
the building; alsc tne Rosemary
Mercantile Co is put. ug in an up'
to-date ginnery; in addition to these
the ginnery of \V S Camlin,Jr, aud
I saw null and grist mill are all located
in or around our town. This
is all r " Surest of the farmers
of X)d.
We hear u.. \ness men. both
of Harpers and i discussing
raising a stock conip. id putting
! in a cotton mill or an oil mill. We
1 hope to see an up-to-date cotton
mill located here in the near future.
We need something more to develop
our town than cotton gins.
Some of the Harpers base ball
team played with the Black Mingo
boys Saturday, August 1. Mingo
and (Jhoppee teams crossed bats on
the Mingo diamond at 3 o'clock,
August 1. When the game was
called,it stood 8 to 0 in favor of
Mingo. This does credit to our boys.
Mr F F Hanks and others of
Rosemary passed through our town
recently in the fine automoble of Mr
W H Andrews. This is a machine
of the best make.
Messrs Ossie and Gussie Camlin
are visiting their grand-father in the
Earls neighborhood.
Our town is visited daily by the
candidates both from Williamsburg
and Georgetown counties. All seem
to be sure of election*. We wish
them much success, but we know
ome of them must lie on the cooling
board within the next few days.
Our good old friend, Mr F M
Britton, of Church postoffice, spent
a day or two in town this week and
