the crime was preceded by some act
of cruelty or fool hardiness on tfte

many wonderful movement of the

stock-holders ofjthe Farmers
and Merchants Bank was held at

The tobacco market of this
town ha-, just closed a success- i

It is now firmly established
that tobacco is one of the
leading crops of this section.
That soil, climate, etc., conduce
to make this one of the most
profitable crops has been clearly
and convincingly demonstrated
by about eight years of varied
.experiences. Northeastern
South Carolina has securely
taken her place upon the bright
tobacco belt of the continent.
And the relative positions of
the markets have been settled j
also. Lake City is the second *
tobacco market of oouth Caro- 1
iina. This is a fact which is far
bejond dispute now. Cities and
towns of seven thousand^ population
and under completed for
this place, but a little village
won the prize. It is hard that
a lad in knickerbockers should
win over the men who wore long

Ftur Plays at Indlantown to Be In
dered by Local Talent.
On April 17, there will be givea
an entertainment for the benefit of
Indian town school. The people of
that community are making an effort
to boiid a new school bouse and
the proceeds will be applied to the
building fund.
The entertainment will compose
four plays, viz: "Cabbage Hill
School","Christmas at SkeeteT Corner",
"How She Managed It" and
"The Dispelling of Big Jim." The
programme will be interspersed with
tableaux, songs, etc. This school
is taught by Miss Eleanor Lougbridge
and the affair will be under
the diiection of the talented vonng
school mistress.
