Nine candidates were initiated. ,

Georgetown, recently. I

-done for him. S
w
Mr W S Camlin, Sr, who some
weight or ten months ago suffered ^
a stroke of paralysis, is still
;sick, having never recovered ^
from the attack. It has left him u
almost blind. He and Mr Martin
are the oldest citizens of our
community and it is sad to see
both these patriarchs so sorely
I afflicted.
Farm work has been some- 2
what retarded by wet weather, e
but the past few days of pleas- g
ant sunshine have been taken r
advantage of to the utmost. t
Quite a lot of fertelizers is 1
being hauled out by our farm- a
ers, which indicates another big a
vcotton crop. a
Brother farmers, cotton may t
3>e king, but corn and bacon are t
absolute necessities. ,
Our town council was in ses- c
sion Monday night, March 9, and
several important ordinances j
were passed. Our lijttle town ;
is on the upward move, having
acade more progress within the 1
past year than for years before. 1
We hope in a few weeks to of- ,
fer inducements to home-seekers
superior to any other small town 1

Luck to you, Mr Editor.

The closing exercises oflv the
Brown school took place on the 13th
insThey were attended bj the pat*
rons and mnch appreciated br all.
The march and drill were very
much enjoyed. After this came an
impressive prayeir by the teacher,
then from the pupils was ar most
beautiful rendition of appropriate
gems. The pupils each rendered
very nicely their speech recitals,
showing good work.
The teacher next gave a mo3t excellent
talk, and the school was appropriately
closed with the Lord's
prayer by the children.
Last, but not least, the -picnic
came off at Mr J L Brown's home
nearby; and the .-most toothsome
viands were enjoyed to the ^superlative
degree.
A meeting of the patrons was

The Thorevell Orphanage.
The Thornwell Orphanage, Clia;on,
S. C\, has recently completed
i cottage, the funds for which were
iresented by Dr J C Silliman of 1
Palestine, Texas, as a memorial to ,
lis father, Dr James Monroe Still- \
nan, formerly of York County, S. C. <
[*h3 buildiog is a granite structure. <
Ml the granite was donated by Dr \

te Quarries of Elberton, Ga. The c
onse is complete with all the mod- t
m improvements and is filling op 1
rith a family of little orphan girls J
nder the age of tpn. This building j

f the Thoruwell Orphanage to 250.
'he care and education of this I
umber of children is, of course, a
eavy draft on the Presbyterians of

\ iornrtrnn^P. The ThornWell Or- ^
.6 hanage
was founded in 1875, being
pened for the reception of children *
n the 1st day of October of that
ear. It has been wouderfully en- a
arged since then, till now there are
2 stone and brick buildings. Nev- j
rtheless the demands are much
;reater than ever before. It does
tot confine its benefits to Presby- t
erian children, but considers only
he fact that the child is a needy 5
,nd deserving orphan. Its schools c
ire on p high grade, both literary
tnd manual and its pupils when j
hey leave are thoroughly able to
ake care of themselves. It deserves
,he helpiug hand of all generous 1
people in thi3 great work that it is |

This is what Hon Jake Moore, <
State Warden of Georgia, says of ,
Kodol For Dyspepsia: "E C De- _
Witt & Co, Chicago, 111. ?Dear ;
Sirs?I have suffered more than ]
twenty years from indigestion. <
About eighteen months ago I had
grown so much worse that I could
not digest a crust of corn bread and '
could not retain anything on my
stomach. I lost 25 lbs.; in fact I
made up my mind that I could not
live but a short time, when a friend
of miue recommended Kodol. I
consented to try it to please him and
I was better in one day. I now i
weigh more thau I ever did in my
life and am in better health than for
many years. Kodol did it. I keep
a bottle constantly, and write this
hoping that humanity will be bei)efited.
Yours very truly, Jake C
Moore, Atlanta, August 10, 1904."'

Editor County Record:?The (
High School act has been so <
modified that I believe there are i
several schools in this county J
that should profit by it. A single
school district may now es- ,
tablish a High School, provided 1
it has as many as 15 pupils
above the seventh grade and
employs one or more teachers for
the high school department.
The matter of the appointment ?
of trustees has also been sim- j
punea. me regular scnooi irus
tees of th? district serving also 8
as the high school trustees. The a
aid that a school may g-t under c
this law ranges from ?500 to k
$700, depending on the number ?
of high school grades taught. I t
do not think it woultf require an 1
additional tax levy for some of 1
our schools to take advantage *
of this act. U
I shall be glad to hear from r
any schools interested. o
